Join the Roofing Pilot & Mimic team!Roofing pilots and mimics enable new product development and productivity projects for shingles, underlayment, and manufacturing technologies. This role is for an Associate Scientist with both mechanical and electrical aptitude. The Associate Scientist will be part of a team that maintains and operate the pilot line. Associate Scientist will also lead projects to improve safety, quality, or efficiency of pilot and mimics. Associate Scientist will work closely with innovation teams, test labs, quality teams and other internal customers to define new equipment capabilities. Successful candidate will then lead project to upgrade pilot & mimics, conduct test & learn to validate or optimize performance, and finally create documentation for new equipment capabilities. This role will be based at the Owens Corning R&D Center in Granville, OH. Reports to: Roofing R&D Pilot Lead Span of Control: Individual contributor JOB RESPONSIBILITIES PROJECT EXECUTION AND MAINTENANCE Support the development and delivery of roofing pilot & mimic capabilities Support capital upgrades by partnering with engineering to deliver Implement new equipment capabilities to enable prototyping, improved efficiencies, or new pilot & mimic processes Participates on project teams to provide innovation prototyping in materials, products, and equipment PILOT & MIMIC OPERATIONS, MAINTENANCE AND TESTING Safe operations and continuous improvement through hazard elimination Pilot & mimic operations includes: planning, set-up, data collection, and shutdown Completes process, product, and material testing to inform trials Maintain equipment for continuous, efficient, and safe operations Communicates results to R&D teams to achieve growth and operations goals through trial execution Establishes, documents and trains others on trial operation JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associates Degree in Engineering or Science field OR Technical knowledge and experience with manufacturing and/or pilot processes Must have strong hands-on mechanical skills including ability to operate, maintain, and repair process equipment Proficient in technical writing with the ability to produce detailed information. Proficient in using a computer including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) Ability to repetitively lift objects up to 40 lbs and stand for a large portion of the day Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to plants and suppliers PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 3+ years in manufacturing and/or R&D pilot facility Pilot scale or mimic line operations Experience leading trials including data collection to drive data-based decisions Experience delivering projects in manufacturing or R&D environment KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Demonstrates an unconditional commitment to safety Self-motivated with the ability to work independently Attention to detail and dedication to documenting knowledge Team-oriented with a desire to build strong relationships, collaborate and drive results Passion and curiosity for understanding how th
