The Alcohol & Other Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) is designed to provide early identification and interventions for students who use alcohol or other drugs. Early recognition of substance misuse or dependence provides an individual with a greater chance for positive change.
Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Director of ADAP and Assistant Director of Counseling Center. Under the general direction and leadership of the Director of Counseling Center, the Assistant Director of Counseling Center and Director of ADAP provides oversight for the Counseling Center clinical administration and manages the Alcohol and Other Drug Assistance Program (ADAP). The Assistant Director provides strategic planning, direction, and operations of all alcohol and drug related prevention, education, and in/direct service activities, and assesses and provides appropriate counseling or referral services for students. Additional duties include oversight and participation in the after-hour /on-call crisis response, and provision of general and clinical supervision services to all ADAP staff as well as Counseling Center staff and interns as necessary.This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.
  • Provides oversight for clinical and administrative procedures to ensure optimal programming of the counseling center
  • Studies and develops policies and procedures for providing and growing comprehensive mental health and preventative services for Rutgers University-Newark students including outreach and prevention, intervention, crisis service, group and individual treatment, and referral
  • Must ethically and efficaciously manage clinical services for all students including those with alcohol and substance abuse problems including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment planning with full accountability for caseload and providing consultation on cases where substance abuse is involved
  • Develops and supervises the Recovery Support and Housing Program including actively collaborating with the Rutgers New Brunswick Recovery program and maintains the NJ State Recovery grant
  • Provides reporting on grants and data collection
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with campus colleagues to provide services that meet the assessed needs of the campus, including consultation, workshops, and trainings. Flexibility to accommodate for off-hours events as well as outreach programming.
  • Represents the Counseling Center when needed and assists with the organization and integration of the Center's training and assessment programs.
  • Ensures that messaging from the Counseling Center remains consistent with the mission of serving a diverse population of students in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Actively ensures all programming offered at the Counseling Center is consistent with this mission

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • An earned Doctoral Degree in counseling or clinical psychology or Master's Degree in Social Work or related field with five (5) years of post-license clinical counseling experience
  • Four years of post-doctoral clinical counseling experience with demonstrated experience in providing substance abuse and/or dual-diagnosis is required
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a staff member (not a pre-or-postdoctoral trainee) in a university counseling center setting is required unless the candidate demonstrates the presence of substantially similar clinical, administrative, programming training, and consultation experience.
  • A minimum of two years of administrative experience including staff management and supervision is required.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Current licensure as a psychologist in the State of New Jersey is required. NJ licensure must be maintained to remain eligible for employment.
  • An LCSW with demonstrated experience working in the field of Alcohol and Drug addiction may be considered along with strong leadership experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience with an electronic records system is required.
  • Experience in developing and providing psycho-educational programming for a college-aged population is required; as are strong interpersonal, oral and writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • LCADC is highly desired
  • Experience with assessment, program development, and software platforms/packages and quality assurance is strongly preferred
  • Experience with Titanium Schedule or similar counseling center-related electronic scheduling and records system is strongly desired
  • Professional association involvement is strongly preferred
  • Additional expertise in at least one other area including but not limited to multicultural concerns, groups, outreach, developmental issues, mood management, mind-body principles, crisis management, clinical training, supervision, and technology or data/records management is highly desired
