DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Department Manager/Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing infrastructure projects in the bridge & structural service line. The selected candidate will perform project oversight, staff development and management, contract management, technical and cost proposal development, and client management for targeted statewide clients.
The selected candidate will collaborate with the Structural Department Manager and Regional Bridge Practice Lead, as well as structural engineering managers from other Michael Baker offices in New Jersey and around the country. This position will be part of a dynamic team responsible for managing and expanding the bridge & structural engineering practice currently servicing state, county, and municipal clients.
You will prepare technical and cost proposals to win work. You will also attend professional society meetings; where you will work to develop and maintain relationships with key clients, teaming partners, and potential technical staff hires.
The Assistant Department Manager/Senior Project Manager will be managing staff utilization by scheduling, monitoring and revising assignments; creating and monitoring department budgets; providing leadership and direction by mentoring and motivating staff on issues such as performance feedback, financial management, and client relations; resolving personnel issues such as marginal performance, policy interpretations, and succession planning.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Individual staff management and mentoring for all structural group staff.
Quickly get up to speed on our policy, procedures and relevant software while acquiring an understanding of the company's service offerings, and the client standards relevant to your projects.
Communicates with clients regarding project issues, schedules, and budgets.
Leads proposal efforts while leveraging established client and industry relationships to win work.
Project Manager responsible for all facets of the task or discipline of the project.
Performs detailed technical peer reviews.
Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives; attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training.
Attending professional society meetings; where you will work to develop and maintain relationships with key clients, teaming partners, and potential technical staff hires.
Verifying that quality standards and project deadlines are met.
Maintaining client satisfaction.
Oversight of project safety Health and Safety Plan.
Direct coordination with the client's Project Representatives.
Providing regular status reports to Structural Department Manager.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, with a concentration in Structural Engineering & Bridge Design, preferred. Master in Structural Engineering, desirable.
15 years of progressive structural related design experience with NJDOT, New Jersey Turnpike Authority, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey clientele. 5 years of project and staff management experience is also required.
P.E. license in NJ. NY and PA desirable.
Perform complex structural analysis and prepare design calculations using Midas, AASHTOWare Bridge Rating, STAAD, and other similar software tools.
Oversee structural details and construction plans in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
Excellent time management skills, the ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations.
Strong English language skills, written and verbal, and the ability to prepare professional, well-written proposals, reports and engineering project documents are essential to long-term success in this role.
Assist with technical aspects of the proposal efforts while supporting Project and Department Management with their efforts to win work.
Client management skills; demonstrated ability leading and managing the design and detailing of complex bridge projects, with an emphasis on experience and knowledge of structural infrastructures.
Microsoft Office Suite; advanced knowledge of technical software used in bridge and structural engineering.
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $130,000 - $195,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
