The Walmart Local Marketplace team is a new venture at Walmart that is on a mission to revolutionize the local shopping experience. Walmart Local Marketplace partners with local retailers to make their businesses and products discoverable to customers and available for same-day in-store pickup and local delivery. Walmart Local Marketplace is dedicated to building and scaling innovative ways for customers to discover and engage with local sellers seamlessly, boosting product assortment and speed on site, helping local businesses grow, and powering our hyperlocal flywheel.

Job Description Summary

The Walmart Local Marketplace Strategy & Planning team is looking for a dynamic business leader to drive our strategic decision-making to support the growth and scale of our program. In this role you will lead our strategic planning processes, drive competitive insights and trend analysis, and evaluate new expansion opportunities, recommendations, and GTM strategies. This role involves high-level strategic thinking and executive communication, strong technical analytics skills, and process-oriented mindset to drive outcomes. Primary responsibilities include:

Strategic initiative scoping, sizing, and GTM

  • Build robust business cases to evaluate ad-hoc strategic business questions and category or market expansion opportunities like services and restaurants. Evaluate new opportunities within the context of Walmart's existing competitive position, platform, and capabilities to determine how to leverage and grow our strategic advantages.

  • Present recommendations for VP+ cross-functional audiences to gain buy in.

  • Develop GTM strategy and approach to operationalize pilots.

Competitive Insights

  • Drive industry research to evaluate trends and recommendations for the Walmart Local Marketplace program.

  • Evaluate and implement competitive data sources to support insights and ongoing processes.

Strategic Planning

  • Support WBR, MBR reporting processes to monitor progress against goals and surface actionable insights.

  • Support long-term planning cycles, guiding tops-down alignment for OKRs, goals, and bottoms-up assumptions supporting future growth.

  • Develop executive materials (e.g. white papers) to articulate strategic vision and support cross-functional alignment.

  • You're able to operate both tops-down to support strategic direction and decisions, and bottoms-up to support execution and optimization

  • You have strong executive presence and have experience developing exec-level materials

  • Setting the strategic direction for the Local Marketplace program and support decision making for the Local Marketplace leadership team to drive growth and expansion

  • Exhibiting a growth mindset and ability to operate in ambiguous environments in a highly matrixed org

  • Leading with influence and becoming an invaluable thought partner to internal stakeholders by communicating top priorities, challenges, and risks, articulating the "why" behind it all, and rooting recommendations firmly in data.

What you will need:

  • 7+ years related experience in Consulting, Finance, Business Operations, Strategy, or related field (MBA preferred)

  • Experience in consumer-focused retail or ecommerce / marketplace environment

  • Proven track record of leading market research to drive insights and develop strategic frameworks, business cases, and recommendations

  • Excellent critical thinking and communication skills (written and verbal) with experience and comfort presenting to upper-level leadership

  • Analytical skills and ability to make data-driven decisions. Experience with Tableau, Looker, and proficiency in writing complex and efficient SQL queries to extract data.

  • Competence in managing core business management and governance processes

  • Problem solving creativity and flexibility in the face of change, obstacles, competing demands and priorities. You can work seamlessly in a fast-paced environment, managing several priorities and staying organized throughout

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. Programs range from high school completion to bachelor's degrees, including English Language Learning and short-form certificates. Tuition, books, and fees are completely paid for by Walmart.

The annual salary range for this position is $108,000.00-$216,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
