The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Staff Associate I in New York, New York

The Staff Associate I will primarily be responsible for the analysis of m6A RNA measurements within the lab using radioactivity-based measurements, GLORI, and imaging-based approaches. These methods are currently utilized in the lab for measuring m6A in normal and cancer cell lines.

In addition to the execution of assays, the candidate will also perform routine quality protocols to monitor the performance and quality of these assays and ensure the adaptation of these relevant technologies to the needs of the project, as well as advanced data analysis to interpret the results of the obtained data.

Duties

  • 75%: Responsible for carrying out thoroughly planned experiments.
  • 15%: Keeping records of experiment results.
  • 10%: Running quality control experiments to ensure proper working of the assays.

Functional Knowledge

  • Has experience in the research subject (m6A and mRNA degradation)
  • Basics of imaging analysis
  • Basics of experimental design

Technical Expertise

  • Basics of tissue culture
  • Basics of imaging
  • Basic understanding of research techniques, tools, software, and instruments used in the m6A mapping protocols.

Communication Skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate with collaborators and organize schedules.
  • Explains complex information; collaborates with others to build consensus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with other members of the lab.
  • Meticulous, attention to detail, and focus on accuracy.
