The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly qualified researcher who has both wet bench skills (tissue culture, confocal imaging, mouse genetics) as well as dry bench skills (Python, Javascript, JAR) and a strong background in developmental neurobiology. The researcher will be working with a collaborative group of scientists specializing in neurodevelopment, database architecture and machine learning.

Job Function:

- Develop and refine a novel pipeline for image analysis of confocal images.

- Perform optimization steps for various steps involved in pipeline

- Supervise and train other lab members in the implementation of pipeline and its subsequent updates

- Refine and optimize imaging of cortical sections

- Refine and optimize file handling steps to improve efficacy and capacity of pipeline.

Lab Mission/Purpose:

The Au lab is a basic neuroscience research group that studies brain development and circuit formation. We primarily focus on the developmental maturation of short range inhibitory neurons of the cortex, also known as cortical interneurons. To study cortical interneuron development, we employ a number of experimental approaches including stem cell directed differentiation, mouse genetics and quantitative image-based analytical approaches.


Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, biomedical science, or comparable scientific field and 4 years of laboratory research experience preferred.

Minimum Skills Required:

- Primary neuronal culture

- Mouse genetics

- Proficiency in ImageJ and Ilastik

- Proficiency in confocal imaging

Preferred Qualifications:

- Programming ability in Javascript, Python
