The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Staff Associate I in the Department of Systems Biology in New York, New York

The Genome Engineering Core is a new facility with the mission of providing CRISPR-based functional genomics and spatial profiling services to collaborators at Columbia University and beyond. Our functional genomics expertise includes pooled genome-wide and custom-library screens with amplicon-seq and single-cell RNA sequencing readouts. We employ diverse CRISPR technologies, including CRISPR, CRISPRi, and CRISPR base editing. Our spatial profiling service includes a 10X Genomics Xenium next-gen in situ machine. Our goal is to use these cutting-edge technologies in collaborations involving precision medicine, cancer genomics, immunology, and other fields. This position will prepare plasmid and viral libraries, perform cell culture for screens, and operate the Xenium spatial profiling machine. In addition, the position will include general lab management duties. Members of the lab will have opportunities to learn and develop cutting-edge CRISPR technologies.

Responsibilites will include:

50%: Carrying out CRISPR-based functional genomics screens, including making plasmid libraries, lentiviral libraries, and performing screen cell culture.

30%: Performing spatial profiling experiments by operating the Xenium in situ spatial profiler.

20%: General laboratory maintenance needs, including ordering, inventory management, financial management, IT coordination, equipment maintenance and repair, creating and maintaining protocols and lab notebook entries, and piloting new experimental techniques.


  • Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • 4 years of related work experience preferred.
