Key job responsibilities

  • Designing and managing career trajectory for software developers on the team which also includes hiring, development and mentoring responsibilities.

  • Be a technical leader in the organization by contributing to technical design, operational mechanisms, establishing quality standards and mentoring engineers beyond immediate team.

  • Accountable for delivering customer impact tracked through annual goals, and reporting progress through regular mechanisms.

  • Aligning team's Agile/Scrum activities to drive customer value guided by annual goals, and organizational vision and team charter.

  • Working closely with customer facing roles, engineers and Product Managers to architect and develop intuitive experiences and robust services to power them.

  • Contribute to the team and organization's vision, by building a strong understanding of the technical landscape, customer needs, and the team's strengths.

  • Management of the team's software development life cycle

  • Make knowledge and information accessible broadly through regular reporting on development, operations, quality, and roadmap.

  • Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication with senior management, partner teams, and engineering teams.

A day in the life

  • Monitor and act on team's health metrics

  • Guide the team technically by actively participating in technical design discussions, and diving deeper into implementation details to both inspect, and accelerate software development.

  • Represent the team and communicate with product managers, stakeholders and customers.

  • Drive accessibility of information both internally in the team and externally.

  • Be ahead of the rest of the team in identifying opportunities, and roadblocks. Set the team up for success and accelerate their impact delivery and career growth.

  • participate in quarterly and annual mechanisms

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
