The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Senior Staff Associate II in New York, New York

Under the direction of Dr. Kevin Gardner, the Senior Staff Associate II will conduct experiments, manage and supervise the operational activities of the Gardner research lab to ensure that all projects are running smoothly and on time. The scope of duties includes but is not limited to facility planning and maintenance, inventory control, purchasing and maintenance of laboratory equipment, fiscal and administrative services, monitoring environmental risks, and quality control within the labs.

Responsibilities:

* Conduct experiments in cellular and molecular biology of breast cancer.

* Oversee on-site support to the PI and research staff by answering questions and troubleshooting technical and administrative issues.

* Oversee quality and training of technical staff.

* Manage a comprehensive inventory of equipment located in the labs for maintenance agreement renewals and purchases/discarded equipment.

* Liaison with university central university offices to address facilities/EHS issues.

* Coordinate preparation of protocols for IRB and IACUC.

* Assure lab members keep credentials and training up to date.

* Work with department senior-level administrative staff to design, develop, implement/monitor research protocols, including DEA license renewal.

* Onboard/offboard research faculty/staff.

* Train new lab personnel, students, and collaborators in use of departmental and lab resources.

* Manage Purchasing and Accounts Payable for the PIs and research staff and follow-up on status of lab orders and other services.

* Supervise Assist with purchasing of supplies and equipment.

* Perform other duties as assigned and/or requested.


Minimum Education:

* Ph.D. degree in cell biology, biochemistry, or molecular biology.

Minimun Qualification:

  • Equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience in cell biology, biochemistry, or molecular biology.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Expertise in tissue culture, basic techniques in molecular biology, molecular cloning and recombinant DNA technology.

* Prior grants management and lab management experience

* Excellent organization and communication skills.

* Computer proficiency and experience with Excel.

* Bright, competent, and self-motivated individual.

* Good interpersonal skills documented in references provided

* Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality of tasks.
