Senior Staff Associate IThe Columbia Center for Translational Immunology is recruiting a researcher at the level of Senior Staff Associate I (SSAI) for research in the Sykes lab to be the leading researcher conducting advanced cellular assays, FACS sorting, DNA extraction, genotyping, high throughput sequencing and analysis of large data sets. SSAI will be responsible for organizing the lab's shared reagent titrations, database and aliquot distribution, as well as providing one-on-one training to students, other technicians and postdoctoral researchers. SSAI will also support the laboratory needs for our genetically modified swine colony, including genotyping, cryopreservation and other duties.SSAI will devote 50% of time to research in the Sykes laboratory and will be the leading researcher on advanced cellular assays, FACS sorting, DNA extraction, high throughput sequencing and analysis of large data sets. The incumbent will also carry out standard molecular techniques including DNA isolation as well as immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining and imaging. SSAI will maintain the lab's shared reagent titrations, database and aliquot distribution, as well as providing one-on-one training to students, other technicians and postdoctoral researchers. For swine colony, SSAI will allocate 50% of their lab time to: Isolation and cryopreservation of pig PBMC; Phenotyping pigs using antibody staining, flow cytometry and FlowJo analysis; Genotyping pigs trough DNA extraction, PCR and gel electrophoresis; Maintain and update inventory of PBMC & Antibodies; Isolation and cryopreservation of tissues and cell suspensions from xeno transplant donors and Measuring PCMV antibody levels using ELISA. Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree (Masters highly preferred) in Biology, Immunology or similar, candidate ideally will have at least 6 years of experience performing advanced cellular assays, FACS sorting, DNA extraction, high throughput sequencing and analysis of large data sets, knowledge of radiation safety requirements, reagent titration, database and aliquot distribution of the same, ability to communicate with and train lab staff.Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / VeteranPay Transparency DisclosureThe salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
