Scholastic Senior Production Editor in New York, New York

Job Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY

Oversee and manage Licensed, Clubs/Fairs (SRE) originals, and Cross channel groups. Line manager for 2 roles; Responsible for assigning titles and balancing workloads; oversee recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff members and any HR issues with team; conduct weekly 1-on-1s with team members; also serve as back-up for team when they are out of office.

Handle high-profile or challenging projects as needed; attend and lead (if needed) status meetings, attend custom pub planning meetings, attend sales/marketing operations meetings as point person to advise on status; co-supervise out-of-house and in-house freelancers; update production key date grids annually.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage team of two production editors and oversee Licensed, Clubs/Fairs (SRE) originals, and Cross channel groups, attending all status and related meetings and resolving any challenges as they come up;

  • Attend Firebrand meetings and assist on workflows and creation as well as operation of system;

  • Handle any high-profile and/or challenging projects as needed;

  • Co-manage out-of-house freelancers and review copyediting and proofreading tests of prospective freelancers as needed;

  • Recruit and onboard any new hires, working with HR, as well as training;

Qualifications

HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with and manage a team in a leadership role

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, to be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with multiple project stakeholders

  • Strong copyediting and proofreading skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and juggling multiple projects

Experience: A minimum of 6 years of experience working in Production Editorial or Managing Editorial.
