The ESG & Product Regulatory Legal Counsel position provides day-to-day legal support on various environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and product regulatory matters to Wabtec’s global operations. The position serves as a subject matter expert in sustainability, product compliance, and EHS working closely with the Corporate Sustainability and EHS teams, Global Operations, Engineering Compliance, as well as with other attorneys in the Legal Department. Areas covered include: ESG disclosure and reporting, product regulatory, stewardship and chemical compliance matters, and EHS compliance matters. This is a global role, as the position also involves counseling and overseeing matters outside the U.S. The position will require knowledge of existing and potential laws, regulations and standards in these areas, and the ability to learn and understand those regulations in jurisdictions where outside counsel support may be required.
What do we want to know about you?
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
Minimum of seven (7) years of experience practicing environmental, regulatory or ESG law, preferably at a large law firm or in-house within the transportation or heavy manufacturing industry.
Strong knowledge of federal and state EHS and product laws and regulations; broad-based experience including compliance counseling and enforcement defense, permitting, transactional support, and litigation.
Experience working with emerging ESG disclosure laws in European and/or other international jurisdictions.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and oral and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate complex legal and technical issues to executives and non-legal personnel.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, successfully manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, and lead cross-functional teams to achieve results.
A commitment to excellence, teamwork, rigor, continuous improvement and engagement.
Licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania or another U.S. state, as applicable.
Travel may be required internationally and domestically (10-20%).
What will your typical day look like?
This position is expected to have a high degree of responsibility, including advising clients, other attorneys in the Legal Department, and senior executives. The position is expected to manage a docket of ESG and product compliance matters and function as a strategic partner to the business, analyzing complex factual and legal issues, proactively identifying issues and advising on practical solutions. This position will manage outside counsel and/or technical experts in matters from time-to-time, including establishment and management of scopes of work, budgets, reporting, and work product. The position will report to the Corporate Vice President, Global EHS & Regulatory within the Legal Department.
Roles & Responsibilities
Provide legal advice and counsel on ESG and product stewardship issues.
Monitor and interpret emerging ESG disclosure laws and regulations and advise the Corporate Sustainability team on approaches to coordinate its ESG disclosure strategy.
Analyze complex factual issues in product regulatory and EHS legal matters, including laws of different states in the U.S. and laws of foreign jurisdictions, either through individual research or working with local legal experts in other jurisdictions.
Coordination with Corporate Sustainability and EHS teams, Engineering Compliance, senior executives of the company, or others to ensure a thorough understanding of the ESG disclosure and product regulatory legal issues.
Manage privileged investigations and provide support as needed for product compliance and EHS incidents.
Work with other members of the Legal Department to manage and resolve disputes with third parties relating to product regulatory issues, including potential claims against the company or claims by the company.
Keep informed of ESG and product regulatory and policy developments, participate in industry associations as designated, and partner with the business to identify potential impacts and compliance strategies.
Manage outside counsel involved in ESG and product regulatory matters, including setting and maintaining budgets.
Provide training to clients as needed.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between
$161,300.00-$229,800.00
The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
