Senior Associate, Innovation Portfolio Operations

Overview :

The Innovation & Business Development team at HSS drives commercial opportunities that support the enterprise’s diversified growth objectives through a growing portfolio of novel technologies and care delivery models that advance the field of musculoskeletal health. The portfolio consists of a variety of licenses, collaborations, spin-outs, and venture investments that help bring novel medical device, life sciences, care delivery, and digital health solutions to market. The Innovation & Business Development team also supports a range of discoveries and inventions made by HSS inventors (researchers, engineers, clinical staff, operations staff) as well as outside technologies that leverage HSS’s breadth of expertise.

The Senior Associate, Innovation Portfolio Operationswill work under the direction of the Managing Director, Portfolio Management & Investments at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). The successful candidate will monitor and support the management of this growing portfolio of technologies and their related licenses, collaborations, spin-outs, and venture investments.

Key Responsibilities:​

  • Portfolio management monitoring and support across collaborations, licensing agreements, and venture investments to optimize strategic and financial performance.

  • Develop a project management infrastructure for tracking and reporting on progress across the portfolio of existing collaborations and pipeline opportunities.

  • Ensure timely and efficient completion of collaboration milestones by both HSS and its external collaborators.

  • Provide support for identifying, vetting, and pursuing pipeline opportunities, including performing market assessments and diligence, evaluating key business and economic terms, performing financial analyses, and preparing recommendations for new collaborations or investments.

  • Monitor financial, strategic, and operational performance across the portfolio, including reporting requirements to stakeholders across the enterprise (e.g., Finance, Compliance).

  • Develop communications for internal stakeholders and external audiences in partnership with colleagues across Innovation and Marketing/Communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree

  • 3+ years experience in consulting, corporate strategy, corporate development, investment banking, or related disciplines

  • Demonstrated interest in healthcare

  • Strong market research and financial analysis skills, including financial modeling in Excel, as well as analysis of current and prospective portfolio companies’ financial statements

  • A detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized individual who can support across a large and diverse range of tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to foster and maintain a positive team-oriented environment and cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and other institutional stakeholders

  • Demonstrates initiative, diligence, preparedness, and independent judgment

  • Ability to deal with complex problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, draw informed conclusions and implement solutions

    Skills and Experience – Preferred

  • Experience in private equity, venture capital, business development, and licensing

  • Familiarity with collaborations, strategic partnerships, and venture investing

  • Experience working in or with the startup ecosystem or with new business units

  • Familiarity across healthcare sectors (services, medical devices, life sciences, health IT / digital health)

USD $90,000.00/Yr.

USD $115,000.00/Yr.
