The Role:

The Revenue Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the company's revenue recognition processes for a project-based engineering consulting business. This role includes ensuring the accuracy of revenue reporting, enhancing financial controls, and optimizing processes to align with GAAP and internal policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in revenue recognition, accounting principles, financial reporting and analysis and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with business leaders, project managers and the accounting team.

Responsibilities:

  • Revenue Recognition: Manage and oversee the revenue recognition process in accordance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., ASC 606) and WIP management for Time and Materials projects. Ensure accurate and timely recording of revenue transactions.
  • Accounting Oversight: Oversee the preparation and review of revenue recognition journal entries, reconciliations of project balance sheet and analyses.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual revenue and project related reports. Analyze revenue and project profitability trends, providing insights and recommendations to project managers and senior executives.
  • Contract Review: Review client contracts, agreements and project plans to ensure proper revenue recognition.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Implement and monitor internal controls related to revenue accounting to prevent errors.
  • Audit Coordination: Assist with external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations regarding revenue accounting practices and transactions.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for improvements within the revenue accounting function. Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaboration: Partner with project managers and billing executives to assist with financial project management and ensure proper revenue recognition. Partner with Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis and Billing teams to foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • System Management: Collaborate with financial systems team to ensure the system is functioning properly and efficiently and lead efforts to automate revenue recognition and reporting process.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Around 5 years of experience in accounting, with a strong understanding of US GAAP and revenue recognition accounting principles (e.g., ASC 606) applicable for project based professional service firms.
  • Prior experience with a professional service firm is desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in project accounting software (preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365), Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.


Compensation
The rate for this position generally is$100,000-$120,000annually.This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation.Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted byNew YorkEqual Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
