Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Scientist. This position provides pivotal leadership and management to diverse, constantly evolving grant-funded translational behavioral medicine research initiatives and related projects within the Institute for Excellence in Health Equity. The position provides research and operational leadership and administrative coordination for the conduct of health equity research and programs led by the Associate Director of the Research Pillar of the Institute for Excellence in Health Equity. Supervises staff as well as providing administrative oversight when requested by the Associate Director.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Coordination and supervision of research staff and activities. Directly supervises and manages research staff on a day-to-day basis, provides training, evaluates and documents staff performance. Facilitates the communication of any changes to research policies and procedures.
    • Analyzes research operating practices, such as record-keeping systems, forms control, and manual of procedures to create new systems or revise established procedures.
    • Manage day to day operations of the research portfolio. Will include budgeting and spending oversight, cost analyses of research projects, ensuring execution of study protocols, maintenance of adequate supplies and staffing, and leading team meetings.
    • Executes the research staff on-boarding process to ensure orientation to the research, set up and organization, IT applications, Institute policies/procedures, etc. Collaborates with department, hospital, medical school, marketing, web site team and other staff, as appropriate to ensure staff acclimation and assimilation to the NYUMC organization is timely and comprehensive.
    • Monitors and evaluates workflow and productivity of research staff to ensure maximum efficiency. Recommends to Associate Director opportunities to improve operations.
    • Oversees grant metrics, creates processes to track and monitor recruitment and retention milestones, monitors protocol delivery and fidelity. Creates reporting for federal funders.
    • Oversight of human subjects policies and reporting according to Institutional Review Board and funder policies and procedures
    • Maintains records of annual employee performance appraisal. Follows up, as necessary, to ensure compliance with documentation and program requirements.
    • Prepares newly proposed and modifies current position descriptions, based upon knowledge of the research portfolio, and functions required exercising judgment and analytical assessment skills.
    • Mentors supervisory staff. Meets routinely to review performance and objectives to enhance conduct of research. Develop plans to foster and promote employee professional growth and achievement.
    • Attend national and local meetings and conferences to remain current on health equity research
    • Act as liaison between Associate Director, NYU departments, development office, and grants administration to share updates on health equity research portfolio and outputs.
    • Contribute to scholarly writing of grant applications, manuscripts, and dissemination materials (posters, policy briefs).

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a MS degree and 2-4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree preferably in public health, health education, psychology, population health, or medicine. Experience working in prior management position; work in prior research position; working knowledge of the field of health care, population health, health education, psychology; prior experience with mixed methods approaches, grant application processes, IRB and manuscript preparation.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $70,000-$85,000 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
