Description

The Chemical Engineering Department at Columbia University is seeking full-time on-site Postdoctoral Researcher Scientist in New York, NY starting in January 2025. The Postdoctoral Researcher will work under the guidance of Professor Asher Williams on Columbia's medical campus. The Williams Lab is interested in research at the intersection of synthetic glycobiology, protein engineering, and immunoengineering. Our work spans fundamental understanding with translation to therapeutic applications.

The researcher will work on research projects related to the study and manipulation of protein-carbohydrate interactions for therapeutic applications - including vaccine development and drug delivery. Additionally, the postdoctoral researcher is expected to collaborate with other researchers, assist with lab setup and administration, and contribute to grant writing and publications.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • candidates should have received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques for protein engineering, synthetic biology, and metabolic engineering
  • Willingness to assist in training lab members (PhD, MS, undergraduates)
  • Proven track record in research, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting findings
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively
  • Ability to validate computational results with experimental approaches

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of immunology and/or immunoengineering
  • Proficiency in molecular modeling, virtual screening, and high-throughput docking simulations (familiarity with tools like Schrodinger, PyMOL, and AutoDock Vina)
  • Experience in designing and optimizing proteins for targeted binding.
  • Experience with grant writing
