Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, an international law firm, is actively recruiting a paralegal to join its thriving and growing Real Estate practice group in its New York office. This position assists lawyers and non-attorney timekeepers with preparation of basic legal documents, routine legal research activities, and other tasks related to one or more of the firm’s legal practice areas under the frequent supervision of lawyers and more experienced paralegals. Provides leadership in supporting firm, office and team initiatives and in support of management directives.RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIESGenerates revenue by meeting billable hour and other timekeeping expectations set forth by the firm. Proactively secures billable work, which may require working across teams and offices. Maintains current and accurate daily time log; inputs time records into firm's time and accounting systems according to firm and outside counsel guidelines. Accounts for complete workday.Basic knowledge and application of Federal, State and Local rules. Stays abreast of current rules changes and informs team of same.Drafts routine correspondence, memoranda to file, and basic documents using internal templates and/or established forms; correspondence primarily used internally and reviewed by a lawyer or more experienced paralegal.Coordinates with work group to ensure client/matter electronic materials (emails, documents, etc.) are stored in iManage, in compliance with firm policy, and not to Outlook folders, drives, etc. Works with team members to utilize technology to promote less paper in the workplace.Organizes, maintains and retrieves document files including, but not limited to, correspondence, court papers, corporate documents, legislative materials, case records, transactional documents, governmental filing documents, administrative forms and other materials relative to the firm’s practice areas.Proofreads and marks legal documents prepared by lawyers or more experienced paralegals for accuracy; summarizes legal documents and depositions and, if applicable, prepares witness folders for depositions.Performs special projects as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. Paralegal certificate, National Association of Legal Assistants certification or specialty certificate provided by State helpful.EXPERIENCE: Prior case clerk or similar experience helpful, particularly if experience involved work with documents. Case clerk, paralegal, or general legal experience preferred.OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Basic knowledge and application of Federal, State and Local rules. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic technological and research skills necessary to pull requested documents from online resources required; familiarity with legal technology and computer databases preferred. Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure, and present a positive, professional image with colleagues, professional staff, and vendors. Ability to work overtime or travel, as needed, on short notice essential. Ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions. Visual acuity needed for transcription, extensive reading and input (typing) of information into computer. Ability to receive and convey detailed information through oral communication. Essential competency processes include language ability, reasoning and memory. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must possess the abilities or aptitudes to proficiently perform each of the responsibilities and accountabilities described above, with or without reasonable accommodation.The expected salary range for New York City based employees is $58,100 to $81,500, though salaries for employees based outside of New York City may differ.
