Advertised Summary Job Description The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ANCP) will work in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). Qualified candidates will be board certified in Acute Care and have current NP licensure in New York State. The individual hired for this position will work under the direct supervision of the ICU attending physicians as well as with the ICU fellows to care for critically ill patients in an academic MICU and possibly an intermediate care unit and/or ventilator unit. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: obtaining patient histories; performing physical examinations; ordering and evaluating appropriate laboratory, radiographic and other studies; formulating a diagnostic assessment; development of differential diagnoses; beginning management plans; and performing diagnostic, therapeutic and laboratory procedures in accordance with training and scope of practice; initiating subspecialty consultations or evaluations; counseling and instructing patients and their families; rendering appropriate care in the presence of a life-threatening emergency when a physician is unavailable and documenting all care rendered in accordance with MICU policies and procedures. Other responsibilities may include the teaching of Nurse Practitioner students, and the opportunity to pursue research projects.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Requires Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of experience, plus a current DEA license and New York State NP and RN license.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Board certified ACNP, BCLS and ACLS certification required.
