We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Manager of Search to help build a new dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading teams of talented individuals focused on developing and optimizing our search capabilities to help users find the things they need in easier and incremental ways. You will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of our search product and infrastructure while driving its success from the ground up. Collaboration will be key, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and data science, to ensure a seamless and effective search experience for our users.
What you'll do at Figma:
  • Lead and support a team of managers and engineers responsible for developing and improving Figma's search capabilities.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and data science teams to define strategic goals and establish a roadmap for search product development.
  • Dive deep into technical challenges related to scale, ensuring that our search capabilities can handle new indices and mappings with increasing volumes of data and user interactions.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing engineers. You'll contribute to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and calculated risk-taking.
  • Drive innovation in 0->1 product areas, exploring and implementing new search technologies and techniques to enhance user experience.
  • Leverage your expertise in generative AI and scale to improve our search algorithms and deliver more accurate and personalized results
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • 5+ years of experience hiring and leading teams as an engineering manager with at least 2 years of experience managing managers.
  • Previous experience in driving the development and optimization of search capabilities, preferably within a fast-paced and high-growth environment.
  • Strong software engineering background, with experience in tackling complex technical challenges related to large-scale performance challenges.
  • Excitement and curiosity for 0->1 product development, with a track record of turning innovative ideas into successful features.
While not required, it's an added plus if you also have:
  • Knowledge and experience in generative AI and its application to search.
  • Familiarity with natural language processing and machine learning techniques in the context of search.
  • Experience digging into product analytics and data yourself to help create new opportunities or investment areas for your team

Pay Transparency Disclosure

If based in Figma's San Francisco or New York hub offices, this role has the annual base salary range stated below.

Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location. The listed range is a guideline, and the range for this role may be modified. For roles that are available to be filled remotely, the pay range is localized according to employee work location by a factor of between 80% and 100% of range. Please discuss your specific work location with your recruiter for more information.

Annual Base Salary Range (SF/NY Hub):
$233,000$350,000 USD
