Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is looking for a Lead Software Engineer, Tech Lead to join the API Fraud Services team within the Engineering Services organization.
The API Fraud Services team is responsible for high throughput services that analyze API traffic in real time with the dual mandate of allowing legitimate customers to access and use the services they have paid for, while protecting users and the company from various types of fraud.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
Collaborate with engineering teams to implement a scalable and high-performing full-stack quality solution.
Design and develop test automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and reporting tools to support the flagship streaming mobile apps D+ and Hulu. Lead development efforts, either independently or by mentoring and guiding a team of junior engineers.
Continuously identify and pursue opportunities to enhance systems, products, or services with each iteration.
Manage and coordinate complex tasks, scheduling, status updates, and communication with internal team members and external stakeholders.
Lead and mentor a small team of engineers, providing in-depth code reviews and technical analysis.
Technical responsibility for the codebase to ensure consistency and correctness. Ensure code contributions from the team are of sufficient quality and functionally accurate.
Investigate and resolve framework or environmental issues impacting our services.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training or work experience.
7+ years of experience in a technical field.
You have experience mentoring and coaching more junior engineers on both technical and soft skills.
You are comfortable leading interview processes for all levels of software development.
You work diligently with stakeholders such as project and product management to identify requirements, and provide technical solutions and direction.
You lead with empathy, work to create a strong engineering culture, and you are mindful of the importance of diversity and inclusion.
You are comfortable with ambiguity and leading conversations where discordant views are present.
Responsible for the Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery of the applications, ensuring sufficient code-quality, testing and zero downtime deployment.
Ensure that an application is highly available and scaled to support the required traffic levels and SLAs.
Provide technical review and expert advice on new application development within the API Fraud Services ecosystem
Technologies include Scala, Python, Apache Flink, Spark, Databricks and AWS (ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, WAF, among others). Experience in these areas is preferred but not required.
ML experience, or experience working with ML teams, is highly preferred, but not required.
Excellent understanding of software development fundamentals and architecture.
Knowledge/experience with web technologies and web systems architecture.

The hiring range for this position in New York or Seattle is $159,500 to $213,900 per year, in San Francisco from $166,800 to $223,600, and in Los Angeles is $152,200 to $204,100. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
