Guardian Life Lead Software Engineer in New York, New York

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will work as an individual contributor and collaborate with on-shore / off-shore Guardian teams to design and develop features for Guardian applications built on Java technology platform.

You will

  • Design, implement and maintain Java-based applications that can be high-volume and low-latency.

  • Work as part of a scrum team to implement business requirements in a timely, performance-centric, and maintainable manner.

  • Collaborate with Technical Teams, Technical Managers, Project Managers, and subject matter experts to understand, plan and implement solutions. Teams are both onsite and offshore.

  • Support installation of new or modified systems, providing post-implementation support.

  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, legal, infrastructure, and administrative/corporate processes and policies.

  • Ensure project success by reviewing project plans, timelines, estimates, dependencies, and requirements documents while providing feedback.

  • Act independently and as part of a team to translate business and technical requirements into well-engineered, tested, and deployed applications.

  • Work in a SAFe agile team environment with other developers, QA, business users, and other internal teams as well as periodic external partners.

You have

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a software developer with proficiency in Java, with a good understanding of its ecosystem

  • Sound knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) (https://www.simplilearn.com/tutorials/java-tutorial/oops-interview-questions) Patterns and Concepts

  • Experience in a lead role

  • A deep knowledge of modern web frameworks and web architecture best practices and patterns.

  • 3+ years of experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular, jQuery) and current on REACT

  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript, including DOM manipulation and the JavaScript object mode

  • Deep understanding of React.js and its core principles

  • Prior experience with popular React.js workflows (such as Flux or Redux)

  • Knowledge in common front-end development tools such as Babel, Webpack, NPM.

  • Experience in UI, LESS, SCSS, HTML responsive design, e.g. CSS grid, flexbox, media queries

  • Knowledge of Responsive design using Material design, Bootstrap or equivalent

  • Cross-browser compatibility

  • Secure UI development best practices, e.g. OWASP

  • Experience with CI/CD and GIT, Jenkins or similar

  • Deep understanding and experience with cloud and security and authentication

  • Experience with REST APIs and REST API best practices

  • Experience in debugging technical issues by looking at application logs along with in-depth debugging skills on different browsers

  • Familiarity in AWS CloudWatch and Splunk

  • Familiarity with Safe Agile process and planning, Jira, Confluence etc.

  • Hybrid, within a commutable distance to Holmdel, NJ, Bethlehem, PA or New York, NY

Salary Range

$114,080.00 - $187,415.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
