The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Investigations, the incumbent will conduct investigations of reported incidents and crimes on a university-wide basis, including evenings, nights and weekends; conduct interviews and investigations for other units of the University; refer cases to outside agencies such as the FBI, Secret Service, NYPD, etc.; when appropriate; meet with administrators from departments regarding security matters for staff.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize various electronic security systems to assist in investigations and deliver information sessions concerning violence in the workplace and crime prevention principles.
  • Works closely with the other members of the Investigations and Technology Unit and the Crime Prevention Specialist. Conducts training for uniformed staff. Assists with witness/ victim assistance services and makes court appearances as necessary.
  • Conduct investigations of reported incidents and crimes; review all incoming crime reports and classification for adherence to Clery requirement
  • Conduct interviews and investigations for other units of the University; work closely with Title IX coordinator(s), General Counsel, and Human Resources on matters relating to Title IX violations, Violence Against Women Act, and workplace violence
  • Assist schools and departments in dealing with troubled students and employees
  • Meet with department administrators regarding public safety matters for staff
  • Performs related duties as requested

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or it's equivalent plus a minimum of 2-4 years' investigator experience required; preferably in a complex institutional organization.
  • Knowledge of interview/interrogation techniques. Strong customer service skills, excellent communication, interpersonal and administrative skills required. Knowledge of current computer operating systems and the ability to utilize various types of electronic equipment in the course of completing investigations including CCTV as an investigative tool. Ability to work with changing priorities, manage numerous investigations simultaneously and independently, and work under pressure, against deadlines.
  • Ability to interact tactfully and equitably with a broad constituency of students, faculty and staff, and work effectively in a University setting is required. Strong analytical and organizational skills and knowledge of CCTV systems, along with presentation skills required.
  • The hours for this position is evening hours from 3:00pm - 11:00pm. Must be able to engage in strenuous physical activity, including walking, climbing stairs, carrying equipment and supplies, including boxes, and packages over 25 pounds, as well as standing or sitting for long periods of time. Must also be willing and able to perform duty in inclement weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing executive protection is desirable.
