The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Health Professions Education Learning Specialist supports assigned projects initiated by Programs in Occupational & Physical Therapy. In addition, the specialist will assume responsibility for leading projects, with some guidance, including assisting in tracking and monitoring student performance as the Programs transition to a competency-based educational framework.

The Specialist helps support the development and facilitation of educational programs, counseling services, and learning resources that promote academic success. This includes providing learning support, curriculum design assistance, and other education-related responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff and other stakeholders. They should also have excellent communication skills and a commitment to supporting learner success.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Essential duties include overseeing daily activities related to learning and assessment within the Programs in Occupational & Physical Therapy. The Programs want to support and empower learners, educators, leaders, and scholars to succeed in their educational and professional endeavors at VP&S.

  • Plays key role in teaching and curriculum development support to faculty and staff to ensure efficient and timely learning program execution.
  • Helps faculty through the development and implementation of a mission-driven set of guiding values, values-aligned standards, standards-anchored assessment system, and assessment-informed curriculum.
  • Effectively integrates innovative methods, technology tools and workflows to enhance the learning experience for learners.
  • Supports learning success of occupational and physical therapy students by coordinating design, development of solutions, optimal delivery, and ongoing evaluation of programs via a ride range of activities, including but not limited to:
    1. Coaching and guiding instructors in designing effective learning objectives, content, and supporting materials.
    2. Developing and utilizing useful, reliable, and valid teaching and assessment tools
    3. Measuring and adequate reporting of results that provide evidence of learning as per objectives
  • Research best practices for supporting learning materials, such as study guides and high-quality relevant case studies.
  • Supports Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects, such as evaluation and satisfaction surveys for educational programs.
  • Ability to gather and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and key performance metrics related to student academic support, including student feedback, evaluation data, evidence of student service, and value-add metrics.

Administrative Support

  • Assists in scheduling meetings, preparing materials, note taking, and other administrative tasks.
  • Helps organize materials in a comprehensive manner.
  • Coordinates data collection and survey administration.

People

  • Builds strong relationships with OT & PT faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to understand needs.
  • Interacts with faculty, students, and administrators as needed on assignments
  • Works collaboratively with OT & PT faculty, staff, clinical faculty, students, administrators

Other

  • Participate in Programs in Occupational & Physical Therapy projects and initiatives as opportunities arise.
  • Stays current on trends in health professions education and academic support best practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in educational psychology or related field.
  • 2 years' experience in higher education, health profession, curriculum development or related role
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks, and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Foundational understanding of health professions education tactics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Commitment to student success and equity in education.
  • Interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills focused on establishing and maintaining productive relationships with students, faculty, peers, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or EdD degree in educational psychology, instructional design, adult learning, or equivalent
  • Experience with health professions education, including previous work as a learning specialist and knowledge of course development for health or science institutes.
  • Skill and ability to build content in learning management systems, such as Canvas
  • Familiarity with instructional design principles and development of curriculums connect science, clinical reasoning, and educational pedagogy and theory.
  • Demonstrated application of learning theories and ability to recommend and implement learning solutions.
  • Experience aggregating online data via survey generation tools, such as Qualtrics.
