FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Theatre at Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track position for a scholar or scholar-artist with a specialization in African American or Latiné/Hispanic American Theatre effective September 2025. Additional expertise in acting/directing desirable. The candidate will teach courses in African American or Latiné/Hispanic American theatre on the undergraduate and graduate level and courses in other areas of expertise, serve on departmental and college committees, and provide student advisement. Continued scholarly activity required for tenure and promotion. The candidate will report to the chair. The candidate should be an active participant in the life of the Theatre Department and identify with the mission of the department which sees theatre as an integral part of a liberal arts education.

QUALIFICATIONS

Completed PhD or equivalent required. Substantial graduate and/or undergraduate teaching experience. Proven record of scholarship.

For appointment as an assistant professor, applicants must have completed the terminal degree by the time of the hiring, show strong potential for scholarship or creative work, and have at least two years of college teaching experience.

For appointment as an associate professor, applicants must have completed a terminal degree,

demonstrated a significant record of scholarship or creative work, have at least six years of full- time college teaching experience, and already hold the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

COMPENSATION

$82,928 – $99,532 (Assistant); or $100,329 – $117,805 (Associate); Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
