Wells Fargo Executive Director, Senior Lead Investment Banker, Fund Finance in NEW YORK, New York
About this role:
Wells Fargo, CIB Fund Finance Group is seeking an Investment Banking Executive Director to join its Charlotte or New York office.
The Fund Finance Group provides financing to private equity funds and other asset managers through structured credit facilities. Fund Finance is part of the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB). An Executive Director in the Fund Finance Group will cover a portfolio of existing and prospective clients (fund sponsors) and will work as the lead underwriter for both new and existing transactions, partnering closely with senior client coverage bankers, supported by junior team members. The Executive Director role includes structuring, legal negotiation, credit analysis, and execution of new subscription facilities as well as maintenance (including ongoing credit, re-structuring, and legal work), collateral analysis, and monitoring of existing Fund Finance credit facilities.
In this role, you will:
Manage day-to-day job responsibilities for new deals including:
Creating pitches/term sheets alongside senior originating bankers to win new mandates;
Partnering with senior originating bankers to drive legal document negotiation, deal structuring, presentations to credit partners, and other critical items, all in a highly autonomous manner;
Act as the lead banker on internal underwriting and credit approval processes, including writing detailed credit memos (with junior support) and leading internal discussions with credit partners;
Working closely with internal and external counsel to negotiate legal documentation;
Leading due diligence meetings and various client interactions related to new and existing transactions;
Oversee and manage junior resources in all aspects of deal origination and ongoing portfolio management;
Work with clients to understand financing needs and provide tailored solutions including structuring transaction deal terms; and
Working closely with associates, analysts and internal partners to manage internal compliance, booking, and funding processes.
Manage day-to-day job responsibilities for existing deals including:
Leading all portfolio management activities for a portfolio of transactions/clients, including maintaining client relationships, researching and reconciling questions/discrepancies, and proactively ensuring that all deal requirements are met;
Negotiation, structuring, and execution of amendments and other facility modifications;
Supporting team members in collateral analysis and compliance tracking;
Monitoring financial performance and internal credit ratings of borrowers and limited partners;
Periodic client due diligence;
Annual reviews; and
Contributing to portfolio analysis across the broader Fund Finance Group portfolio.
All aspects of the role include meaningful direct client interaction and interaction with Credit partners. The Fund Finance team also works closely with a dedicated Syndications team, other product groups (e.g. FX and treasury management), and relationship coverage platforms across the institution.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of Investment Banking experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
10+ years of front office or credit experience at a major firm with a focus in finance
Direct client interaction experience, including experience leading relevant transaction elements and interacting with senior decision makers
Deal origination & credit underwriting experience acting in a senior / lead capacity
Experience reading, negotiating, and/or interpreting legal documents
Experience in structured finance or investment banking is preferred
Leadership experience and/or experience training others in a relevant professional capacity
Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
Analytical thinker. Able to make decisions and recommendations that are well-reasoned
High level of personal motivation. Does more than what is asked for and anticipates questions/issues
Ability to manage a high-volume workload while maintaining excellence and consistency of work. Ability to quickly change focus and stay organized is a must
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience with originating and monitoring subscription facilities, asset backed finance, securitization, or other structured products
Ability to work effectively, as well as independently, in a team environment
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Familiarity with private equity funds
Very comfortable and efficient in Excel. Experience writing formulas; organizing, analyzing, and formatting data; and recognizing and auditing errors
Able to review and interpret financial statements
Experience monitoring covenants and client reporting
Formal credit training program experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Math, Economics or Engineering (or MBA)
Job Expectations:
Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
Willingness to work 55-70+ hours per week, depending on workload.
Registration for FINRA Series 63 (or 66) must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.
Registration for FINRA Series 79 must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.
Registration for Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.
Pay Range
Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.
$249,500.00 - $518,300.00
