Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. We are two of New York City’s leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults through-out Manhattan and New York City. The Isaacs Center focuses primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational.

Purpose of Position: Under the supervision of the Food Service Manager the primary function of the Kitchen porter/Dishwasher is to provide daily support to the kitchen team. The kitchen porter/dishwasher assists with kitchen cleanliness and maintaining kitchen organization. The individual in this role will be well-versed in DOHMH health code regulations, and a team player with good customer service and communication skills.

Schedule:Monday through Friday 35 hours per week

Salary Range: $30,000 - $35,414

Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate’s number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account.

Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties

  • Assists in the maintenance, cleanliness and sanitization of refrigeration/freezer units, steam tables, beverage dispensers, dining room tables, cupboards, shelves/racks, work surfaces, cooking equipment, dishes, utensils, appliances, and storage areas.

  • Remove garbage regularly including disposal of recycling boxes

  • Sweep, mop and sanitize kitchen, pantry, and prep room floor.

  • Maintains the dry storage area and the organization of storage shelves.

  • Receive and unload kitchen supplies; check invoices against supplies; stock supply shelves.

  • Load and unload an industrial dishwasher, wash dishes by hand if necessary.

  • Set up workstations before meal prep begins

  • Actively participate in all aspects of staff development, including weekly supervision, team meetings, and training during the year

  • Perform other duties as needed

    Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED

  • Ability to stoop, bend, lift and carry 50+ lbs.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time

  • Must have Food handler's Card or be willing to attend class safety

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment

  • Ability to keep dish room and equipment clean and organized

  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends- with up to 48- 72 hour notice

  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in an organized, timely and hospitable manner

  • Required to work on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day between 6:00 am to 1:00 pm

  • Follow established cleaning and sanitization procedures
