  • Job Type: Officer of Administration- Regular/Temporary: Regular- Hours Per Week: 35- Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.Position SummaryReporting to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Human Resources for Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUF&O) the Director supports business leaders and their departments to achieve their goals with effective HR-related programs in workforce planning, learning, performance management, succession planning, engagement, and retention programs.Responsibilities- The Director will participate in organizational planning and design meetings with senior leaders to discuss HR initiatives and operational plans. They will play a leadership role in proactively providing innovative ideas for process, departmental, and organizational improvements and will work closely with the Director of Administrative HR Shared Services.- Working together with the CUFO HR Team and the University Human Resources Team, the Director plays a critical role in cultivating relationships that enhance the reputation of Columbia University's Facilities and Operations as an employer of choice.- The Director will provide HR support and develop close working relationships with assigned client areas to understand and accomplish their business objectives. The Director plays a central role in data management and analysis to inform leadership decision-making and will analyze trends and make recommendations on ongoing service improvement efforts for the services provided by the CUF&O Human Resources office. Ensures that HR-related programs are carried out in accordance with Columbia University's policies and procedures and provides advice to clients with respect to the interpretation of policies and procedures.- The Director will work closely with the Director of Shared Services, University Client Services, EOAA, and other University Offices to provide guidance and counseling to managers and employees on issues impacting the work environment.- Partner with senior leadership on learning and development initiatives; Create and introduce a training and development culture; Oversee the planning, implementation, and resource development for staff training; Design and deliver effective training to staff in key competency areas.- Work closely with departments to identify, coordinate and help implement training needs to ensure each individual can achieve performance goals; Provide specialized training for managers and prospective managers; Coach employees and supervisors on subjects such as career, performance and leadership development plans. Conduct internal investigations as needed and appropriately resolve grievances and complaints.- Maintain discretion and professionalism while dealing with highly confidential information. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree required. A minimum of seven years of relevant experience in Human Resources required. Must have at least two years of demonstrated successful business partnership within large organizations preferably in higher education and/or facilities management field.- Ability to function independently and under pressure and to exercise a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, discretion, and good judgment in sensitive, and confidential matters required.- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain highly effective relationships, externally and internally. Knowledge of principles and practices of HR Management required. Strong interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communications. Weekends or off-hour work may be required on occasion.- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task required; a customer service orientation and strong problem-solving skills.- Must be organized and detail and task-oriented with the ability to establish priorities and follow up on multiple issues in a time-sensitive manner.- Must be comfortable working under pressure, without supervision and demonstrate sound independent judgment.- Ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, discretion, firmness, and collaboration in dealing with individuals at all levels.
