What does a successful Director, Business Ops & Strategy do at Fiserv?

What you will do:

This role has three primary responsibilities: 1) financial and operational data management, 2) operational excellence program and 3) business operations. The role has the potential to expand based on the performance of the individual. Expectations are high – this individual needs to develop / establish strong influence through partnership with internal teams to drive real outcomes.

Financial & Operational Data Management, Reporting and Monitoring

  • Business Intelligence: experience with business intelligence tools to partner on the creation of a centralized, automated data repository for reporting from multiple data sources and team inputs; requires clean relational data mapping (e.g. at individual / partner level); expectations for this individual to develop approach and ideas on optimizing data management and operations for team

  • Performance Management: daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly; track performance (“the what”) and activity (“the how”) of field sales teams down to the individual and partner level against goals and outcomes; read out on insights of levers against progress, including account plans (with sales), pipeline, leads, closures, activation, retention

  • Financials: tight partnership with finance on development and monitoring of AOP, regular forecast adjustments and translation into team operating goals; manage translation of financial goals into sales compensation plans and performance tracking

  • Sales: tight partnership with sales / sales operations on pipeline tracking and portfolio management read out, including existing merchant program client performance and relationship health, including working with eCRM for data supporting FI channel initiatives

  • Management Business Reviews: coordination of MBR materials for dissemination of business updates, including business and team performance insights and tracking against key initiatives - strong deck and coordination skills required

  • Executive Updates: opportunity to present in executive forums and develop leading voice against business performance

Operational Excellence:

  • Process Improvements: establish new processes and tools for field sales management, including driving adoption and accountability into organization (e.g. activity and tool usage reporting) – goal is to drive overall operational efficiency (higher sales, reduced efforts, reduced costs)

  • Program Management: lead operational excellence program for entire team in partnership with RVPs – work with team to identify set of operational efficiency opportunities / activities, develop program and measure against KPIs/goals

  • Weekly Meetings: lead weekly performance management and operational excellence program meeting

  • Field Experience: requiredquarterly ride-alongs required with business consultants for field sales experience; including participation in the Clover Van tour and branch visits

Business Operations:

  • Sales Enablement: develop strong partnership with sales enablement team and coordinate the central tracking and communication of product and sales enablement initiatives

  • Materials: slide and deck development - establish templates and repeatable slideware in support of overall team strategy; support development of presentations as needed - including Management Committee / Board of Directors updates, client presentations, etc.

  • Team administration:

  • Establishment and ongoing management / governance of sharepoint site and formatting for centralized documents

  • Take notes and summarize for key onsite / offsite meetings with follow ups

  • Manage content for weekly team meetings

  • Support weekly inputs into Merchant Solutions SLT

  • Talent Management:

  • Facilitate biannual talent reviews with HR / team; maintain and support organizational chart

  • Partner with team leadership on university recruiting for annual intern/analyst/MBA manager program; potential expansion into supporting the development of a sales academy program within field sales team

  • Coordinate recruiting / hiring management with HR for sales teams based on need and performance expectations

  • Facilitate biannual talent reviews of team, including historical and performance data; support the Chairman's Award selection process

  • Special Projects: support and potentially drive "special projects" as applicable / come up - e.g. Clover Logo with Large Issuers

  • Offsite Coordination: coordinate logistics, agenda, materials for team offsites in partnership with other teams (e.g. product organization); primarily located at 1 Broadway, Berkley Heights and Alpharetta

  • Other: support SVP administration as needed in partnership with executive assistant

Goals/KPIs:

  • Revenue / margin for business

  • Efficiency gains from operational excellence efforts – higher sales outputs, reduced costs

  • Overall impact on multiple expansion (along with SVP)

Leadership Expectations:

  • Potential to hire analyst support in first 12 months; evaluate role and needs post 12 months

  • Member of FI Channel & SMB leadership team, expectation to serve as example for others

  • Partner on graduate recruiting for MBA / undergraduates to develop talent funnel in NYC

  • Expectations to be “all in” and demonstrate excitement for remit internally and externally, effectively representing Fiserv and team brand, and evangelizing SMB focus

  • Potential expansion of support based on role need, expansion opportunities and capability – SVP commitment to meet quarterly on talent development and progress

Basic Qualifications for Considerations :

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum 5 years of strategy or financial analyst positions related experience in an investment banking or management consulting firm

  • Strategy experience with an emphasis on business growth strategy

  • Ability to travel up to 10-20%, primarily internal travel

  • Advanced degree a plus, but not necessary

What you will need to have:

  • 5-10 years of experience with proven experience with partnership, credit operations and delivery; with most of the experience in leadership roles, operational consulting a positive

  • Exceptional PowerPoint and Excel skills, including strategy and financial presentation development

  • Understanding and knowledge of business financial practices and accounting

  • Experience in data-driven management, metrics and reporting

  • Ability to lead and motivate and drive cross-functional teams

  • Proven ability to understand complex business concepts

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to build consensus

  • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities to interact at all levels of the clients from C-level to technical and operation levels

  • Solid thought leadership and the ability to influence others through collaborative efforts

  • An ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with a broad set of constituencies

  • Strong results orientation with demonstrated track record of success to effectively complete tactical activities

  • A high degree of adaptability and flexibility to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Additional Information:

  • Role is based at 1 Broadway in New York City

  • 4 days / week in the office, with flexibility on Fridays on as needed basis

  • Approximately 10-15% travel throughout the year to various Fiserv offices

Salary Range

$142,800.00 - $240,600.00
