POSITION DETAILS
The Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College, seeks a motivated, experienced Marketing and Communications Manager to enhance the Institute’s outreach to students, faculty, and the general public. Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side is the historic one-time New York City home of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and Franklin’s mother, Sara Delano Roosevelt, from 1908 to 1942. An integral part of Hunter College since 1943, it reopened in 2010 after an extensive renovation as the permanent home of the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute, dedicated to teaching, research, and public programming in the fields of public policy and human rights. The institute provides opportunities for Hunter students to experience meaningful civic engagement and pursue undergraduate studies in public policy and human rights; for faculty to research, teach, and write about important issues of the day; and for scholarly and public audiences to participate in high-profile lectures, seminars, and conferences in its modern auditorium and broadcasted.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer of the Roosevelt House, the Marketing and Communications Manager will support growth for the Roosevelt House brand by driving an optimal marketing mix (PR, social media, content, etc.) and adapting Roosevelt House content for Hunter College and City University of New York marketing and communications programs. This role focuses on executing marketing strategies and identifies concepts for a wide variety of media to promote the visibility and enhance the reputation of Roosevelt House. The ideal candidate will have an eye for design with demonstrated experience creating and managing marketing campaigns.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collaborate with Roosevelt House leadership and the Hunter College Office of Communications and Marketing to create and implement marketing strategies that crease awareness of Roosevelt House’s academic programs, public programming series, and history exhibitions within CUNY and the larger New York City area.
• Plan and implement communications messages including social media posts, event invitations, brochures, and newsletters to reach Roosevelt House’s intended audience(s) of faculty/students, policymakers, researchers, and the general public.
• Conduct research to identify new markets and audiences, demand for programs, and efficacy of existing marketing campaigns and strategies.
• Manage assigned social media channels (including Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn). Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the market; identifies needs for new products and services and makes recommendations for marketing initiatives.
• Implement and uphold brand standards and tone across all communication channels and marketing materials to maintain a cohesive identity for Roosevelt House.
• Write and edit copy for press releases, media advisories, event invitations and social media posts. Contribute to writing and editing of grant proposals and reports.
• Cultivate relationships with key contacts in NYC’s media, policy, and education spheres with the goal of promoting Roosevelt House.
• Create and maintain databases, archives, and other content associated with Roosevelt House communications and marketing projects.
• Ensure the Roosevelt House website is current, visually appealing, and user-friendly, including design, programming, and expansion of HTML, CSS and JQuery implementation, and integration into the Hunter College’s main website.
• Assist the Roosevelt House Historian with the design, production, and promotion of Roosevelt House exhibitions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.
Other qualifications:
• Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external audiences.
• Experience designing and publishing multimedia materials using industry-standard software tools.
• Demonstrated understanding of email marketing systems.
• Ability to function independently as well as to cultivate and maintain mutually respectful, productive working relationships among members of the Hunter College and CUNY community (internal and external).
• Excellent writing and editing competency.
