New York University Clinical Assistant Professor (Non-Tenure Track) (Graduate teaching) in New York, New York

The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Science at New York University seeks applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track teaching position in its graduate master’s program, pending final budgetary and administrative approval. This position will start as early as April 2024.

The responsibilities of the position include: 1) teaching courses in the master’s psychology program, 2) student advising and research/thesis mentoring, and 3) academic administration including co-creating a curriculum in clinical psychology focusing on research in mental health and psychopathology.

Compensation:

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

The ideal candidate will have teaching experience focusing on research in clinical psychology, including experimental psychopathology and various approaches to therapy. The candidate will be advising students who are pursuing careers in academia, would like to join PhD and PsyD programs, or subsequently want to pursue other careers related to the psychology of mental and physical health. The breadth and flexibility to mentor students’ research across a variety of specializations in clinical psychology including both theoretical and applied perspectives of mental health is essential.

Candidates should describe their experience and knowledge of relevant research approaches in clinical psychology and psychopathology in their cover letter and CV. Any experience with academic program administration should be described as well. Candidates should express a commitment to working with students from a diverse global population. A Ph.D. in Psychology from an institution of higher education is required.

Applicants selected as finalists will be asked to arrange for a minimum of three professional letters of recommendation to be sent. Materials submitted must include evidence of expertise in clinical psychology and teaching in psychology, specifically (1) a letter of interest (including career goals, educational philosophy, experience mentoring student research, and/or professional practice areas), (2) curriculum vitae including contact information for three letters of recommendation in case the candidate is selected as a finalist, (3) course evaluations, (4) writing samples of research, scholarship, or professional work that demonstrate subject matter expertise and qualifications for the position as described, and (5) a statement describing your commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. In this statement, please describe the ways in which your scholarship, teaching and mentoring, and/or service and engagement demonstrate your commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are particularly interested in hearing about (1) concrete steps you have taken (or are planning to take) to foster an inclusive intellectual environment in your mentoring, in the classroom, in the department and on campus, and/or in your field more generally, and (2) how these steps connect with your broader views on the topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
