Position Summary
Plays a leadership role in developing, executing, and managing the overall strategy for board, leadership, and major donor communications at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM). This position interacts closely with development leadership and frontline fundraising staff to plan and create board and executive communications, proposals and development materials targeted towards major donors and board members. Essential responsibilities include editing and writing proposals, remarks and reports for major donor audiences and board members.
Job Responsibilities
Develops a suite of strategic content for communications to the Board of Fellows.
In collaboration with the Director of Board Engagement, devises a vision, plan and schedule for select board communications (print and electronic) emanating from External Affairs (EA) and Office of the Secretary.
Oversees project management of select board communications materials with detailed production calendars, strict deadlines, and a tracked process for managing approvals.
Manages, edits, and writes key executive materials, including the board’s annual report, annual orientation manual, quarterly board meeting presentation materials and leadership remarks.
Develops fundraising materials to support major donor and board gift solicitations for campaign priorities.
In collaboration w/Dev. leadership, frontline fundraisers, & Manager of Campaign Comms, devises a content strategy & manages, researches, edits, & writes an array of major donor proposals, prospectuses, reports, tip-ins, brochures & leadership messages.
Manages, edits, and writes remarks for the Dean, Board Chair, board members, VIPs, and other senior administrators to deliver at select campaign and board meetings.
Partners with senior WCM administration, faculty, and departmental administrators to research and develop major donor and board communications materials, messaging, and presentations.
Collaborates with the Manager of Development Communications to manage deployment of Development Communications Associates and the Production Specialist for a variety of development and board communications projects.
Hires consultants and freelance writers as needed to maintain a pipeline of major donor and board communications content. Works with designers, printers, and vendors as needed, and manages vendor projects and relationships.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree
Experience
Approximately 8 years of experience in communications, journalism, or development.
Prior experience working in a Development Office is strongly preferred.
Experience in a non-profit management environment or an appropriate related business where marketing and communications skills are directly applicable is highly desired.
Experience writing remarks and speeches for executive/board leadership; experience writing successful proposals for major donors and transformational gifts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience with Adobe Creative Circle.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, including the ability to interpret and make accessible medical and technical language for a general audience.
Exceptional organization and project management skills, with the ability to plan effectively, meet all deadlines, and coordinate others’ involvement within a dynamic and fast-paced setting.
