Paramount Associate Producer in New York, New York

CBS Evening News with Norah ODonnell and CBS Weekend News is seeking a hard-working, ambitious, and creative Associate Producer to work on the weekday and weekend broadcasts. This is a shared position between the weekday Evening News and Weekend Evening News broadcasts and weekend work is a core requirement.

This candidate must have strong writing, editing, and research skills. Proven editorial judgement is essential. This person is curious, composed and constantly looking for ways to innovate while possessing a relentless attention to detail.

The Associate Producer role is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the broadcast. This person will work closely with producers, correspondents, assignment desk and crews to gather news elements used to produce stories. The ideal candidate must be able to identify potential stories, vet them and be able to produce them through edit. During the week this candidate will also be used for back filling in key roles including producing graphics, storybars/banners and headlines/open.

Snapshot of responsibilities

  • Pitch, write, produce and edit original stories and elements for our broadcast & social platforms

  • Assist producers and correspondents in capturing elements, ordering graphics and editing packages and vos

  • Identify video restrictions and clearance issues

  • Produce broadcasts headlines, VOs and teases working closely with an editor

  • Collect video and identify soundbites from feeds and other sources

  • Exercise editorial judgement in selection of content

  • Assist senior producers with control room duties

  • Coordinate feeds and newsgathering, as needed

Requirements

  • Previous experience in TV News Strong editorial judgement

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Edit room experience.

  • Ability to multi-task and execute quickly in a deadline driven environment

  • Understanding of newsgathering through multiple platforms

  • Must remain calm in breaking news and fast paced situations

  • Must be willing to work every weekend, holidays - and other shifts, as needed.

  • Must have a valid U.S. drivers license and be willing to drive if needed

  • Must be willing to work at the CBS Broadcast Center, at a minimum on show days.

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $64,000.00 - 68,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
