Overview
The Center for Educators and Schools (CES) team uses the resources and collections of NYPL to ignite the curiosity, joy, and passion of learning within educators, students and school communities. CES has five departments: Curriculum Development, Educator Development, Exhibitions Education, School Outreach, and MyLibraryNYC Collection Development & Circulation.
The Associate Director (AD) will be responsible for helping CES to realize its fullest potential by strategizing, planning, and supporting the implementation of the Director’s priorities. The AD will participate in and assist with preparations for CES leadership, staff, and other important meetings and events. The AD will convene members of the CES leadership and other staff members as needed to carry out a changing portfolio of projects. At times the AD will represent the Director and CES as a whole to other NYPL departments and to external partners and events. The AD may take on direct supervision of at least one CES department. With the Director, the AD will be charged with supporting the professional growth and development of all CES staff members.
Examples of possible projects in the AD’s portfolio are: developing systems of patron data gathering and analysis to understand program impact; developing high-stakes reports and presentations; developing plans for staff professional development; spearheading new internal and external projects and partnerships (particularly with NYC Public Schools).
Given the ambition of CES to be a leader in the fields of libraries and education, the AD needs to contribute deep professional knowledge and experience, while also being prepared to learn and grow in new domains.

Best practices for curating and sharing library resources with educators and schools
How to create appropriate divisions of labor and simultaneously foster collaboration across teams and departments at NYPL
How to design and implement statistics, evaluation and assessment metrics mechanisms to tell an effective story about the development and impact of CES
Improve :
CES’ ability to reach new audiences
The use of quantitative and qualitative data to tell the story of CES
The frameworks that facilitate inter-departmental communication and collaboration
CES’ internal culture
Some expectations for this role are that within:
1 month , this person will:
meet all staff members and learn about their roles and responsibilities
take on a well-defined portfolio of important and challenging CES projects and begin working on them
3 months , this person will:
participate in further advanced planning and strategizing
report progress on projects to CES staff, and other relevant stakeholders
6 months and beyond , this person will:
monitor and report on progress towards CES goals
reassess, and as needed, change their portfolio of other projects
(may) take on direct supervision of a different CES department(s)
Responsibilities
Lead important CES-wide projects and see them through to completion
In collaboration with the Director, thinks about priorities, strategies, and goals for CES
Support In collaboration with the Director, plan and prepare internal CES staff events and meetings; support CES staff in planning and preparing for important, higher-stakes public-facing events; support the Director in preparing for internal and external meetings and presentations
Work with colleagues in Strategic Planning to design, analyze, and report on qualitative and quantitative results of CES
Develop and implement new initiatives and partnerships for CES
Support the growth and development of all CES staff members
Performs related duties as required
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education & Certifications
Master’s in Library Sciences, Master’s in Education, or advanced degree in a related field
Required Experience
- 7+ years of experience in the field of libraries and/or education, and at least 3 years of experience in management / leadership.

35 hours scheduled between Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm, with occasional weekend and evening events and some travel, as needed
