Rockefeller University Animal Technician | Laboratory of Lymphocyte Dynamics & Mucosal Immunology in New York, New York

Organization Overview

Our Laboratory studies germinal centers,which are structures within lymphoid organs where antibodies mutate and improve their targeting capabilities in a process called affinity maturation. This allows the immune system to produce antibodies that are precisely targeted at invaders,resulting in faster and more robust responses upon subsequent exposures.

Overview

We seek a highly motivated individual to provide technical support including animal husbandry, lab organization, and supply management for two labs: Laboratory of Lymphocite Dynamics and Laboratory of Mucosal Immunology.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

  • Mouse Husbandry & Specialized Care: Provide daily care and monitoring of mice in standard, germ-free, and Tecniplast housing for both labs. Responsibilities include feeding, watering, and health monitoring while maintaining the specific environmental requirements

  • Germ-Free Environment Maintenance: Assist in maintaining germ-free colonies by sterilizing equipment, implementing aseptic techniques, and following strict contamination prevention protocols

  • Tecniplast System Oversight: Operate and maintain Tecniplast IVC (Individually Ventilated Caging) systems, ensuring optimal ventilation and cleanliness, while supporting the labs unique research goals

  • Ordering & Inventory Management: Coordinate the ordering of lab supplies, reagents, and animal care materials to ensure they remain well-stocked. Track orders, manage inventory, and collaborate with vendors to support timely availability of resources

  • Compliance & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of animal health, treatments, and environmental conditions, ensuring compliance with institutional and IACUC protocols

  • Lab Organization & Maintenance: Maintain clean, organized lab spaces, ensure equipment functionality, and support a safe and efficient lab environment. Conduct regular equipment maintenance checks and oversee periodic service needs

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma

• A minimum of 1 year of experience with mouse husbandry

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage inventory and supply needs

• Knowledge of animal welfare standards, IACUC regulations, and aseptic techniques

• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of animal care and laboratory organization

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, move, or transport equipment and supplies as required

• Comfortable working in PPE in line with germ-free protocols

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree

  • Interest in animal science and animal handling experience is highly desirable

  • Certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) or higher is a plus

  • Experience with germ-free animal models and Tecniplast IVC systems

  • Experience with laboratory procurement processes and inventory management

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Compensation Range: Max

USD $46,000.00/Yr.
