The Sponsor and Specialty Group ("SSG") has a variety of specialty groups that serves clients on a national basis and has been a significant contributor to the bank's strong growth over the past 5+ years. The Lender Finance Group ("LFG") sits within SSG and has been one of the top performing groups within Webster and provides senior secured commercial loans to private credit funds and other non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) operating in the Private Credit market both nationally (and in certain cases outside the US). Such NBFI's then utilize the credit facilities provided by Webster to leverage their funding of a variety of loans that typically come in the form of middle market leveraged cash flow loans, short-term commercial real estate loans, ABL, and other hard collateral loans to third-party borrowers. Our loans are structured using securitization architecture to mitigate risk to Webster. We are headquartered in New York, NY.

Job Description

LFG is a specialized team of approximately 12 dedicated investment professionals dedicated to lending to these private credit funds and other NBFI's and is well known in this growing marketplace. It has been in place for over 8 years and has a significantly large portfolio and is well known within the Lender Finance marketplace. Its senior members all have over 25 years of experience each in this market and close relationships with targeted asset managers. The LFG is a hard-working, performance-based environment that prides itself on a tight knit team-oriented group who work very well together in an extremely collaborative way. The LFG, year over year, continues to grow its portfolio and stature within its marketplace. Such growth has fueled headcount growth within LFG. As an Analyst within the LFG, you will be given the unique opportunity to work with many different professionals who have diverse backgrounds and varying industry expertise, while being exposed to a variety of complex financing structures and state of the art financing technologies in one of the largest (and fastest growing) product categories within commercial banking.

Additionally, you will be given the opportunity to interact with the bank's credit officials, clients, and other industry partners (e.g., law firms, accounting firms, industry experts, etc.). Overall, you will be an integral member of the deal team that is responsible for the entire deal process from loan origination to post-closing portfolio management.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

Portfolio Management:

  • Monitor a borrower's financial performance via a variety of borrowing base ("BB") and other financial reports generated by our borrowers.
  • Review monthly and quarterly BB's and compliance certificates to ensure accuracy and completion.
  • Work with LFG's senior PM heads and other underwriters to directly engage with the borrowers' capital markets groups and other agent and syndicate bank PM groups.
  • Listen to annual or other interim lender update calls and ask questions, when appropriate
  • Maintain borrower credit files
  • Ensure appropriate borrower risk rating
  • Assist other senior PM group members preparing and reviewing internal portfolio review memos to senior credit executives at quarterly and other -annual review meetings as well as assist on internal and external audit reviews.
  • Work with the underwriting deal team to execute all amendments/waivers for existing borrowers.
New Deal Underwritings:
  • Shadow deal teams on new deal underwritings taking detailed notes on all diligence calls and in meeting
  • Become familiar with related deal credit documentation.
Qualifications:

You have:
  • A BS/BA, preferably in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related business field
  • 1-3 years of work experience in an Accounting/Finance/Banking-related position
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with financial statements
  • Ability to work well with others and on teams
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Even better:
  • Industry experience at an investment bank or other institution
  • Financial modeling experience
  • Graduate of a formalized credit training program
The estimated salary range for this position is $75,000 USD to $95,000 USD. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
