Phipps Houses Affordable Housing Compliance Specialist in New York, New York

The candidate must have minimum of a high school degree or GED. Bachelor or Associates Degree or Certification in Bookkeeping or Accounting preferred. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Proficient in Microsoft word and excel is essential. Primary Function: The Compliance Specialist will work within the Property Management Marketing Department and will be responsible for screening applicants and calculating applicant income to determine eligibility for new affordable housing developments. Compliance Specialists will also assist the Vice President of Marketing and Project Managers with administrative work within the department as needed. Duties and Responsibilities: · Work directly with applicants for affordable housing to request and obtain required documentation from them· Review and calculate applicant-provided income and asset information· Analyze documentation to determine if follow-up information is required· Complete and send the 3 party verifications on a daily basis· Follow-up and contact the 3parties (such as employers and bank institutions) to get the 3 party verifications returned by fax or to seek verbal clarification· Organize applicant files in the designated order· Maintain detailed logs of applicant files in process; track deadlines for applicant submission of required documents· Process files and prepare the Tenant Income Certification form (TIC) in accordance with City, State and Federal program guidelines· Submit the completed applicant files to the VP of Marketing and/or Project Manager for review in a timely manner· Respond and complete additional updates promptly after review by VP of Marketing and/or Project Manager· Assist management with any necessary administrative work within the marketing department as needed· Other duties may be assigned as required for efficient operations Desired Qualifications: · Bachelors or Associates Degree or Certification in Bookkeeping or Accounting preferred. Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED considered, with equivalent work experience.· Three years prior experience in compliance, eligibility, auditing, bookkeeping or other related field desired· Prior experience working with affordable housing eligibility and compliance a plus· Must have strong math skills and be efficient and accurate with calculations; detailed oriented and organized· Ability to complete and manage large volumes of forms and paperwork· Ability to interact effectively with applicants· Proficiency in Microsoft word and excel is essential· Bilingual Spanish/English Preferred· Tax Credit specialist certificate is a plus

Minimum Salary: 65000 Maximum Salary: 65000 Salary Unit: Yearly
