Position Description:

We are seeking an experienced associate to join our Separate Accounts Reporting Division within the Corporate Controllers Department. The mission of the Separate Accounts Reporting Division is ensuring all quarterly and annual statutory and SEC financial reporting deliverables are provided in a timely manner and the needs of our stakeholders are met. The team works closely with other areas of the finance department and business units to gain a full understanding of the financial statements and statutory and SEC reports for each insurance entity’s Separate Accounts. This role has a wide variety of responsibility for accounting activities, including preparing financial statements and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. You will work directly with internal/external auditors and the Accounting Policy team to ensure the financial statements and statutory reports for each insurance subsidiaries’ Separate Accounts are in accordance with NAIC and audit requirements. You will be a part of a small, empowered work unit that embraces efficiency and effectiveness, while working closely with members of other departments within Corporate Finance and across the company.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the review of monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and journal entries.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly trend analysis for investment and insurance activities related to the NYLIAC and NYL Separate Accounts

  • Preparation and review of the annual Separate Account Statutory statements and other regulatory filings.

  • Preparation and review of Statutory accounting disclosures and footnotes.

  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly internal management reports.

  • Participate and assist on various special projects and ad hoc requests.

  • Assist in the review and provide feedback of work completed by offshore accounting staff.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance with at least 3 years’ experience in investment accounting and/or financial accounting/reporting.

  • Knowledge of life insurance industry accounting (Statutory accounting) and/or insurance separate accounts is a plus.

  • Understanding of best practice reviews, financial controls, SOX/MARS

  • A self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills who demonstrates a high level of self-awareness, professionalism and integrity in all interactions is required.

  • Must possess an open mind and be adaptable to new tasks and procedures.

  • Excellent organizational, multitasking and prioritization skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Power Point.

  • Knowledge of Analysis for Office, Wings and SAP experience is a plus.
