Purpose

The Manager, U.S. Financial Reporting contributes to the overall success of the U.S. Finance Organization, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives, and ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

What You’ll Do

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Responsible for assisting with the monthly financial close and accurate presentation of the financial statements prepared by U.S. Finance.

  • Responsible for preparation and review of monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and attestations for the significant entities of the Combined U.S. Operations (CUSO).

  • Coordinate and assists with the preparation and review of monthly analytics, quarterly Board packages, and other various management reporting packages for the CUSO.

  • Assist in the modernization and enhancement of legacy reporting processes by leveraging technology to build efficiencies.

  • Responsible for the assisting in building business line balance sheet and income statement reporting capabilities across the CUSO, including key analytics and commentary.

  • Key role for implementing technology enhancements and solutions for the CUSO, including ledger system upgrades.

  • Work with the key support partners in learning and gaining an understanding of the various businesses and functions within the overall organization.

  • Stay abreast and keep management informed of accounting and regulatory issues, proposals, and best practices.

  • Work with accounting policy in researching new accounting changes and guidelines to ensure the U.S. Entities are reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and IFRS.

  • Enhance existing reporting process and work papers to enhance controls and build best reporting practices.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Champion a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

What You’ll Bring

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in Financial Reporting.

  • Understanding of banking business, capital markets financial products, and transactional mechanics.

  • Strong analytical skill and internal control mindset.

  • Knowledge of annual financial statements control requirements.

  • Skilled at implementing reporting with a system of controls.

  • Strong Excel (advanced pivots and formulas), Access, and Power BI skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and multitasking skills.
