Purpose : The Director works hand in hand with relationship managers in the development and marketing to prospective clients as well as the maintenance/enhancement of relationships with existing clients. The role liaises directly with US Corporate Banking clients. The individual will work closely with other team members including, Analysts, Associates, Associate Directors, other Directors and Managing Directors to manage client relationships located in the United States. The Director will be responsible for deal origination from inception to closing, creating client and prospect pitchbooks, presentations, financial modeling and research, credit related activities including review of credit presentations, structuring loan transactions, performing due diligence, negotiating documentation, and monitoring compliance and industry trends. Furthermore, the Director will liaise across other departments and products, including Global Loan Syndications, Derivatives, and/or Foreign Exchange, Cash Management, Trade Finance, Equity Capital Markets and Debt Capital Markets, gaining knowledge and understanding of the various products Scotiabank offers.

What You’ll Do

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Evaluate and analyze the financial needs of REITs, Corporate clients, and Private Equity clients including the development of financial models.

  • Originate lending opportunities; liaise directly with the Corporate Banking Execution team on the preparation of credit presentations and with Global Risk Management on credit adjudication.

  • Negotiate loan terms and documentation with borrowers/other banks, culminating in the closing of transactions.

  • Expand on sector/industry and Bank product knowledge to identify trends and cross-selling opportunities within sector

  • Prepare marketing materials and presentations for client pitches and deal execution efforts.

  • Work closely with the Bank's specialized product groups (GTB, Treasury Services, Capital Markets, etc.) to tailor products to clients and promote effective marketing and delivery of these products to customers and prospects.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

What You’ll Bring

  • Great attitude and a team player mentality

  • 9+ years of industry experience, ideally in Corporate Banking, Direct Lending Credit/Finance and/or other relevant experience

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business, Real Estate, Finance, Math, Engineering, Economics, Science or Technology

  • Strong understanding of financial markets and sector/product knowledge

  • Strong structuring, credit, and financial analysis skills specifically as it relates to secured, direct lending

  • Proven ability to underwrite, structure and close bilateral/syndicated transactions where Scotiabank acts as agent and/or a participant

  • Possess a strong professional real estate network and has the ability to distribute and coordinate/agent banking syndicates for secured loans

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • A high level of attention to detail

  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work

  • The ability to excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines

  • The ability to perform effectively in a team environment

  • High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations

  • A high level of energy and a keen desire to learn new concepts
