AMPI CORPORATE HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGER in New Ulm, Minnesota

Description AMPI owns seven Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation's American-type cheese, processed cheese and butter is produced. The cooperative's award-winning cheese, butter and powdered dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail and food ingredient customers. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time: Manage and continuously improve training programs that comply with OSHA requirements and develop safe work behaviors. Champion occupational health and safety programs and policies, working directly with division safety coordinators in preparing, administering, facilitating and enforcing safety programs, policies and initiatives. Lead industrial hygiene programs including medical testing, physicals, respiratory testing, fit testing; coordinate the monitoring for asbestos, lead, hexavalent chromium and other contaminant levels as required by their respective standards; conducts other monitoring activities as required, including but not limited to noise, carbon monoxide, and heat exposure. Conduct formal and informal audits and inspections of practices and records at manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations. Document issues, drive and ensure corrective action. Serves as subject matter expert with thorough understanding of federal and state (Minnesota and Iowa,) occupational safety and health regulations and Department of Transportation regulations relative to motor carriers. Monitors and directs regulatory changes as they occur; ensuring compliance. Acts as organization liaison for pertinent government agencies (OSHA, Emergency Management, DOT etc.) and serves as the representative in cases of inquiries and inspections. Follow-ups on all activities and ensure corrective action is taken to ensure closure with respective agencies. Maintains certifications and seeks continuous avenues for department growth and improvement. Identify, create, and maintain employee training and records for relevant occupational health and safety and DOT topics. Conduct regulatory annual training for all employees. Collaborate with all departments and divisions to ensure occupational health and safety regulatory requirements are understood and supported. Promote technical safety and occupational health awareness through internal company communications, such as newsletters, 5 minute safety talks, best practices, and specific training programs. Support effective two-way communications with all employees by championing safety committees, time on the floor and shift change health and safety information. Support corporate plant services and quality assurance to implement engineering controls and food safety while minimize employee safety and occupational health hazards. Review plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to ensure they meet occupational health and safety requirements and regulations. Identify and develop corrective actions for potential hazards by auditing facilities, machinery, and safety equipment. Develop, evaluate and improve safety guarding or control mechanisms for all equipment and tooling. Review plant safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports. Evaluate and initiate improvements for personal protective equipment. Support plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment. Work closely with Division Managers and Senior Leadership on capital safety improvements, and budget process for occupational health and safety expenses. Oversees the management of all DOT driver files, random drug screening, and DOT documentation in the company's electronic system. Develop clear safety goals and objectives that will lead the organization to high standards of health and safety performance. Utilize and analyze safety and health metrics, trends and data to understand what is working well and where gaps exist. Provide quick response and program reprioritization to prevent injuries and risks. Deliver Year-over-Year program safety and occupational health improvement based on internal and external KPIs. Implement a Safety Steering Team consisting of the Senior Management of the Company meeting at minimum quarterly Manage AMPI's worker's compensation program, serving as the primary interface between the workers compensation insurance carrier, medical providers and counsel and regulatory representatives. Closely monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker's compensation claimS Reviews injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows-up as necessary Works with operational teams to ensure event investigations are completed timely, evaluates cause(s) of incident(s), and identifies corrective action as necessary, ensuring actions are complete Supports manufacturing plant safety coordinators with all safety and occupational health incidents, ensuring employee care, internal investigation, follow-up actions and obligations with external stakeholders such as local and federal regulators. Compiles, reports on time and maintains annual OSHA required reporting and documentation. Supports manufacturing plant safety coordinators to ensure accurate and timely claims are conducted and reports submitted Performs other tasks as assigned, An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field or a combination of education and relevant work experience. 3 to 5 years relevant work experience preferred/required.
