We are seeking a detail-oriented candidate with strong communication and collaboration skills for our GIS Specialist position! The ideal candidate will effectively support MWCD goals and values, manage multiple tasks efficiently, and convey information clearly to both technical and non-technical staff.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direct guidance of the GIS Manager, the GIS Specialist shall assist in the development and maintenance of the MWCD GIS data sets and databases. Duties include reading and interpreting source documents, such as civil engineering plans, site plans, and legal descriptions of property holdings. Inputs data into a GIS system. Acts as a cartographic specialist relative to mapping requests from the engineering staff and other departments throughout the organization.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND WORKER CHARACTERISTICS:
JOB DUTIES in order of importance
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

Updates maps and datasets as new data is received; develops and maintains spatial relational databases; conducts mapping research in the field and in the office to resolve conflicting information and ensure data accuracy; utilizes utility maps, land use maps, aerial photography and digital imagery to ensure data accuracy; uses the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) while working on property and plat maps to create and maintain property maps. Assists in the correction of spatial error within specific GIS data layers and imagery data sets. Utilizes datasets to create online web mapping application for data dissemination and use in the field; prepares maps and data sets including hard copy and electronic exhibits. Assists GIS Manager in departmental tasks as needed.

Reads and interprets plat maps, legal descriptions and engineering plans; transfers data between ArcGIS & AutoCAD programs.
Maintains required licensures and certification, if any.
Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
