LSU Health New Orleans Division of Property and Facilities is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Custodian 1 or 2. There are multiple vacancies.

Hours of operation are 4:00 pm – 12:30 am.

These positions are part of a Career Progression Group (CPG).

As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Custodian 1 or 2 ) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Please refer to the ‘Job Specifications’ tab located at the top of the LA Careers ‘Current Job Opportunities’ page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level.

Starting rate of pay for a Custodian 1 is $10 and Custodian 2 is $10.70 per hour. There is also an additional $1 Longevity pay and $1 Shift Differential for hours worked only. Rate may be increased depending on applicants’ qualifications.

  • This is a Civil Service Position. This position does not require applicants to take a Civil Service test.

  • Pre-employment Drug testing, Criminal Background check, and Physical are required.

  • This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.

To perform manual tasks in order to maintain the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of state buildings, facilities, institutions, etc.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Experienced.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General from a Custodian Supervisor A. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

LOCATION OF WORK:

All state agencies.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from Custodian 1 by the presence of experienced-level custodial tasks.

Differs from Custodian 3 by the absence of advanced-level custodial tasks.

Examples of Work

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Cleans bathrooms, offices, hallways, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.

Empties and decontaminates trash containers.

Moves, rearranges, and dusts furniture and fixtures.

Mixes or blends cleaning solutions to proper concentrations as necessary for various tasks.

Strips, cleans, and polishes floors using industrial-grade machines.

Follows procedures for disposing of infectious waste.

Maintains custodial equipment; reports needs for minor building and/or equipment repairs to a higher-level custodian.

Sets up tables, chairs, and other furniture for special meetings, banquets, or other occasions as assigned.

Washes blinds, windows, and walls with prescribed solutions.

Operates wet/dry vacuum for cleaning and shampooing carpeted areas.

Strips, decontaminates, and makes beds for patients, residents, students, etc.

May perform grounds work by picking up trash, watering plants, light mowing, weed trimming, etc.
