Columbus House opened its doors in 1982 to provide services for men and women at least 18 years of age. Our goals quickly broadened from the mere provisionof food and shelter and simple survival, to understanding and working toward overcoming the problems which cause people to become homeless.

Purpose
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant employs various accounting systems (hardware and software) and related procedures to record, analyze, and report fiscal results to supervisor and other staff as appropriate, in accordance with GAAP and grant reporting requirements and in a timely and accurate manner. Assists with reviews and analyses of accounting and reporting data to help ensure that the agency is maximizing use of agency resources.
Responsibilities
- Uses accounting processes to obtain accounting data from various sources (i.e., agency staff, vendors, sub grantees, automated payroll system, subsidiary accounting systems, excel spreadsheets, etc.) for posting to the general ledger in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner.
- Documents and communicates processes and monitors performance of processes
- Assists in the preparation and submission of accurate and timely fiscal reports, budgets, and related drawdowns/invoices to agency funders
- Responsible for calculating, recording, and maintaining the Agencys drawdown documentation for federal programs.
- Responds to independent and funder auditor activities supplying information requested by auditors in an accurate and timely manner
- Prepares account analyses, for review and discussion with appropriate staff and/or funders
- Prepares and submits invoices for billing of VA programs.
- Manages, updates, and reconcile contribution spreadsheets to donor perfect database on a monthly basis.
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelors degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of three years relevant experience
- Ability to work with team members.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Valid Drivers license with a good driving record.
- Experience using computerized accounting systems.
- Expert knowledge of Excel and Access.
- Non-profit experience
- Optional-Knowledge of mental health, substance abuse and homelessness
Supervised by:Director of Finance
Pay scale:$56,000-$58,000 based on experience
Schedule:9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
