Medtronic is looking for a Principal Internal Communication Specialist to join the Surgical Innovations (SI) Communications team. In this role, you will devise and execute an insight-driven internal communication strategy aimed at informing, aligning and inspiring employees across our global business.
This individual contributor role calls for a curious, versatile team player with a positive attitude and passion for building a bold, inclusive, and empowered culture reflective of the Medtronic Mission and Mindset. Candidates must demonstrate strong business and organizational acumen, with a proven ability to collaborate and build trust at all levels of the organization. Efficiently managing multiple projects independently and in collaboration with leaders and cross-functional partners are key.

This role reports directly to the Sr. Director, Communications for Surgical Innovations. It may be
based in Boulder, Colorado; North Haven, Connecticut; Mansfield, Massachusetts; or Minneapolis, Minnesota. Remote candidates may also be considered.

A Day in the Life
Develop and develop internal communication strategies, messaging, content and tactics that inform, align, and inspire employees in alignment with the Medtronic Mission, Mindset and business strategy
Draft, edit and finalize content regarding SI business strategy and transformation; product development; organizational structure; policies procedures; financial results; mergers acquisitions; employee recognition; and other critical milestones
Maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, and deliver communication support for business advancement and transformation, organizational change, policies, and other company information to employees
Drive executive engagement strategies, content, and logistics for leader-led events, including Town Hall meetings, webinars, kick-off meetings and team events
Develop and implement internal editorial calendar and content, leveraging innovative internal communications channels, platforms, and tools
Incorporate new technology and techniques to effectively communicate business strategies, imperatives, and initiatives
Manage content distribution across multiple channels
Create dashboards, score cards and reports to assess communications program performance against objectives
Oversee agency and contractors
Create POs and track expenses against budgets as needed
Apply journalistic skills to lead discovery and sourcing meetings with leaders, cross-functional partners, and communications team members, which will inform communication strategies and content
Facilitation the launch, adoption and reinforcement of Medtronic verbal and visual brand guidelines
Represent SI by participating and collaborating with Medtronics center-led communications initiatives and teams
Apply internal communication expertise and consulting skills to advise those who wish to engage key audiences; provide coaching to management on effective internal communication
Bachelors Degree and 7+ years of progressive responsibility in the communications field, in a corporate or agency environment OR advanced degree and 5+ years of experience
Nice to Have
Proven ability to manage large, moderately complex or undefined projects independently through effective information gathering (or research), analysis, planning and implementation.
Solutions-oriented and effective at developing processes, systems and governance that simplify work and enhance performance
Strong journalistic skills to source information and capture compelling stories that inform, inspire and activate employees
Deep experience writing and producing internal content, including leader messages, speeches and scripts, news articles, and video
Strong change management capabilities and understanding of organizational dynamics and social psychology
Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships across a variety of functions and with all levels of management and employees
Trusted to operate with the highest levels of ethics and integrity, protecting confidential and sensitive information
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
Basic design / creative skills (eg PPT, asset development)
Experience with multi-channel communications deployment
Flexibility to support projects and initiatives that fall outside immediate job scope
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite, including Teams and Yammer
Surgical/medical technology/medical device/healthcare industry experience
Bachelors degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field
Experience with external communications and issues management
