Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ), a National Cancer Institute Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS), seeks a nationally recognized clinical researcher and breast surgical oncologist at the Associate Professor to Professor level, with proven leadership experience and a distinguished record of original clinical research, exceptional clinical and educational skills, and a commitment to the Institute's mission to serve as Regional Director for Breast Surgical Services for the Southern Region of the Oncology Service Line and academic Chief of Breast Surgical Oncology at Rutgers Cancer Institute. The Regional Director/Chief will have the opportunity to shape an existing program by leveraging the unique resources in the state's only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and the RWJBarnabas Health system.
Rutgers Cancer Institute's Breast Oncology Program currently consists of four-full time, SSO-fellowship trained surgeons, supported by four dedicated breast medical oncologists and two radiation oncologists focused on breast cancer in the New Brunswick location. Rutgers Cancer Institute and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School also offer an SSO-accredited Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship since 2007. The principal teaching hospital, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
The academic appointment will be in the Department of Surgery of RWJMS with a resident faculty appointment at Rutgers Cancer Institute. This position will work under the direction of the Chief Surgical Officer and Chief of Surgical Oncology on mutually agreed upon areas and liaise with the RWJBarnabas Health Oncology Service Line for all operational and programmatic matters regarding breast surgical oncology programs for the Rutgers Cancer Institute, and have responsibility for strategic planning, clinical program vitality and coordination, quality, and research activities at facilities and practice locations across the expanded RWJBarnabas Health southern region Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide oversight for all operational and programmatic aspects within the discipline of breast surgical oncology; responsible for oversight of the clinical practice, development of clinical research activities, and mentorship of the researchers/providers assigned at CINJ and the integrated expanded southern region of RWJBarnabas Health.
Research
* Support collaboration between members of CINJ Clinical Research Programs.
* Support participation by breast surgical oncologists in cooperative group, industry sponsored and investigator-initiated research.
* Publish scholarly articles regularly with an emphasis on collaborative reports from Breast Surgical Oncology.
* Successfully initiate and sustain external funding to support investigator-initiated research programs.
* Collaborate with colleagues throughout the RWJBH oncology service line for clinical trial research in breast surgical oncology.
* Support responsible stewardship of philanthropic funds in collaboration with the Rutgers Foundation and Section members.
Teaching
* Participate in the teaching of students, residents, and fellows as part of the educational mission of RBHS.
* Mentor and develop junior faculty within the Section in accordance with the RBHS Appointments and Promotions Guidelines.
Service
* Participate in leadership meetings as needed, representing Breast Surgical Oncology.
Patient Care
* Maintain clinical activity by full participation in program clinical workload.
* Support clinical faculty/staff productivity in accordance with established benchmarks.
* Review Section clinical performance to ensure quality of care and efficient use of resources.
Administrative
* Assist the Division Chief in relevant short and long range planning, funding procurement and sustainability.
* Direct professional activities and projects to ensure excellence within the area of breast surgical oncology.
* Collaborate with relevant Chiefs and oncology service line leadership to recruit and retain surgical oncology faculty and staff.
* Collaborate closely with Division Chief and Chief Surgical Officer for optimization of ambulatory and inpatient operations, efficiency, and patient experience.
* Work with the relevant RWJMS departments to ensure that patients receive comprehensive, state-of-the-art care in the breast surgical oncology clinic.
* Oversee clinical and research resources of the Section to ensure optimal use and best practices.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements (e.g. JCAHO)
* Collaborate with RWJBH oncology service line leadership alongside the Division Chief for innovation and integration of surgical care and related services throughout the region.

Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

Rutgers Cancer Institute is home to nearly 250 internationally recognized physicians and researchers. The long-standing relationship with their NCI Research Consortium Partner Princeton University was recently leveraged to establish the Ludwig Cancer Research Princeton Branch with several faculty as founding members and leaders of the Branch.
