Posting Summary | The Department of Marine & Coastal Sciences (DMCS) within the School of Environmental & Biological Sciences (SEBS) at Rutgers, The State University, is seeking a postdoctoral associate.The postdoctoral associate will work on elements of the design, development and evaluation of a prototype East Coast Community Ocean Forecast System (ECCOFS) that implements data-assimilation of real-time observations in a Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) model of the western North Atlantic Ocean and U.S. coastal and shelf waters. The postdoctoral associate will work under the guidance of Prof. John Wilkin in collaboration with members of the Rutgers Ocean Modeling Group and co-investigators at partner institutions who have extensive experience in applied coastal ocean modeling and data assimilation, and who are knowledgeable of the ocean dynamics of the U.S. eastern seaboard and Intra Americas Sea. The ECCOFS prototype will utilize elements of the Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation (JCSDA) Joint Effort for Data Assimilation Integration (JEDI), and assimilate real-time observations from NOAA and NASA satellites and regional Coastal Ocean Observing Systems of U.S. IOOS. The ECCOFS design will anticipate eventual transition to operations at NCEP. Some preference will be given to U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents. The position is full-time with benefits, and available for one year to be renewed for a second year based on performance.
