Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Licensed Mental Health Clinician for the RHS Counseling & Psych Services department.Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Offers a full range of professional mental health services for students including immediate triage of student needs, crisis intervention, clinical care management/action planning and structured group and individual treatment under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Counseling, ADAP, and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), or designee, and under the supervision of a designated licensed clinical social worker.
  • Collaborates with other professionals in a multi-disciplinary University based mental health service.
  • Offers individual and group counseling to college students presenting with a wide array of developmental, emotional and clinical psychological issues under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker.
  • Triages immediate needs.
  • Handles crisis assessment and intervention, as well as structured group and individual treatment.
  • Offers support and appropriate levels of intervention for students.
  • Manages large, complex caseload of students.
  • Works in a team approach with psychiatrists, substance abuse counselors, other medical staff and community mental health professionals.
  • Provides ongoing case management, evaluates students' needs for additional services and makes/follows-up on appropriate referrals.
  • Collaborates with other professionals in a multi-disciplinary University based mental health services.
  • Completes all documentation in a timely and diligent manner.
  • Consults with senior staff as necessary and appropriate on complex situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in university community-based programs, activities and trainings to educate and support staff, faculty and students and to decrease the stigma associated with help seeking behavior.
  • Participates in research opportunities and program evaluation.
  • Works as a member of a multi-disciplinary group of staff and faculty to help students meet academic goals.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of full-time clinical experience, or equivalent.
Certifications/Licenses
  • New Jersey Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
  • A valid driver's license would be required for this position; Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Interest/experience with evidence based, culture-centered, structured treatments for common concerns for University students including: Depression, anxiety, affective dysregulation, substance use and eating difficulties, etc.
  • Familiarity with developmental issues of college students.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and skill in working with diverse students, staff and faculty.
  • Must be adept in assessing suicide risk and developing appropriate dispositions and safety plans.
