Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Manager III SPVR for the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) - Humanities department. Reporting to the Director of Administration of the Humanities and supporting the Director of the Center for Cultural Analysis along with other Center Directors.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Oversees the fiscal and administrative functioned related to operating, discretionary, sponsored and non-sponsored accounts for affiliated centers and programs including, but not limited to the Rutgers Center for Historical Analysis, High School Teacher Institute, Rutgers British Studies Center, Center for Cultural Analysis, RAICCS, Thomas A. Edison Papers, and and various division initiatives.
  • Responsibilities are performed using GAAP, under general supervision and with few direct instructions, and include account management and ensuring efficient financial operations.
  • Works with the Center Directors to develop program budgets and prepare sponsored program proposal submissions, track award expenditures, track effort certification for accuracy, and manage project account close-outs.
  • Analyzes data and prepare monthly and quarterly reports related to assigned accounts and general financial data for the Directors to assist in management of Center financial assets and coordination and tracking of commitments to/from various units.
  • Supervises the Senior Administrative Assistant and Business Specialist.
  • Oversees personnel management and assists with special projects, as required.
  • Oversees events, the logistics of the planning, and determine how to resource and staff those events.
  • Provides additional support to the Humanities Division as needed.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • A minimum of five years relevant experience in a financial/administrative function.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, computer literacy, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting grants and/or sponsored programs in an academic or non-profit research environment.
  • Prior supervisory experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The work environment is busy with activity of students, faculty and staff.
  • This position must manage competing priorities while attending to regular inquiries and problem resolution in a hectic work environment as variable challenges present demands on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to handle interruptions and quickly re-establish focus on multiple tasks at hand on a continual basis.
