City of New Bern Inflow and Infiltration Technician - (00460) in New Bern, North Carolina

General Definition of Work : Performs intermediate skilled and technical work in the inspection and repair of sanitary sewer infrastructure; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks : Supervising water and sewer line installation, maintenance and repair projects; maintaining records and preparing reports. (The following tasks are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.) - Operates closed-circuit camera equipment to inspect, analyze, and detect leaks, cracks and other defects in sanitary sewer lines. - Performs closed-circuit camera inspections of newly constructed sanitary sewer infrastructure. - Performs smoke and dye testing of sanitary sewer systems in to detect defects and sources of inflow and infiltration. - Performs internal manhole inspections. - Documents and maintains records of the findings from inflow and infiltration investigations. - Performs repairs to sanitary sewer infrastructure to reduce and eliminate inflow and infiltration. - Operates, cleans, and maintains water jet and vacuum trucks. - Assist in locating water and sewer infrastructure. - Completes time sheets and service orders. - Discusses job requirements with and receives detailed instructions from supervisor. - Prepares work reports. - Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : General knowledge of sewer infrastructure components and to identity and evaluate sources of inflow and infiltration into sewer infrastructure; some knowledge of the practices for repair and maintenance of sanitary sewer components; some knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; ability to lead the work of others; ability to understand and follow work orders and prepare simple reports; ability to operate trucks and construction and repair equipment; ability to perform manual tasks for extended periods, often under unfavorable conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Requirements : Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and extensive experience in inflow and infiltration evaluation.

**Special Requirements** Ability to obtain Grade I collection certificates issued by the State of North Carolina and an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina within six months of employment. ***The City of New Bern is an Equal Opportunity Employer.***
