Responsibilities:

  • Assists Nursing Staff with Various Tasks
  • Works directly under the supervision of the nursing staff performing Nursing Board approved assistant duties.
  • Keeps nursing staff informed of any changes in the service users status.
  • Keeps Director of Nursing and/or Charge Nurse/Team Leader informed of any difficulties in performing duties.
  • Performs CNA Responsibilities- Observes service users needs and reports as needed. Participates in the Quality Assurance Assessment system; Mealtime Assessment, Environmental Assessment; Interaction Assessment and Third Shift Assessment as instructed.
  • The following tasks may be completed if appropriate delegation and criteria by the registered nurse and Board of Nursing has been met
  • Performs sterile dressing changes for wounds over 48 hours old and follow principles of sterile techniques at all times.
  • Administers gastrostomy feedings/flushes.
  • Administers oral/nasogastric feedings.
  • Adds enteral feeds to existing infusions.
  • Clamps feeding tubes.
  • Performs urinary catheterization.
  • Performs catheter tubing irrigation.
  • Performs ostomy care on established ostomies.
  • Assembles and flushes tubing during set up.
  • Observes infusion flow rates.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Other duties including: Range of Motion, Enemas, Inserts rectal tubes, Heights and Weights, Break up and removal of fecal impactions
  • Apply hypothermia unit
  • Oxygen therapy-observation and maintenance
  • Finger sticks for blood glucose testing.
  • Obtain vital signs.
  • Wound irrigation -Apply ace bandages, ties and binders.
  • Apply and remove EKG monitor leads
